The future of the club

Plymouth Parkway’s youth system begin their individual campaigns in superb fashion as opening weekend builds solid foundations for the rest of the season!

Elburton 0

Plymouth Parkway 6

The new look Under 18’s took a leap into the unknown as little was known about what the DJM Under 18 Cambridge Division would be like. The opening day fixture would take place at Haye Road as Elburton looked to make home advantage count on opening day but after a nervous first 10 minutes, it was Parkway who took control. Charlie Castlehouse, who had recently travelled with the Parkway first team opened the scoring after 18 minutes. The goal settled Parkway and a flurry of goals would follow before half time as Dylan Jones and a double from Colby Collier would settle the game as a contest as the half time whistle blew.

Parkway would manage the second half with maturity and further goals from Lucas Tsianivas and a second from Dylan Jones would make it six of the best from the opening weekend. The squad now look ahead to a home fixture at Bickleigh Barracks as Launceston Youth make the trip to Plymouth.

Ivybridge Town 1

Plymouth Parkway 4

After a frustrating pre-season and lack of game time, the Under 16’s started their campaign with a tricky fixture at Erme Valley against Ivybridge Town. The early morning kick-off would see Parkway struggle to get into the game as Town looked more composed and dangerous in possession. A bold double switch by the management before the break would kick Parkway into gear and they made the breakthrough with a fine long strike by Marley Krac on 38 minutes.

The second half began in the same format as the first with Town enjoying much of the possession and carving out the better chances, but another tactical switch would shift Parkway through the gears. Finley Walker would hit a quick fire double to put Parkway three up and a wonder goal by Rhys McShane would ensure the Yellows walked away with all three points. Henri Hatch would hit a consolation for Town and a deserved one after a good display by the home side despite the scoreline. Good teams find a way to win even when they are not at their best as Parkway walked away from Erme Valley with a superb platform to build on.

Southgate 1

Total domination was how Mark Berry described his Under 15’s opening day performance against Southgate as they got their campaign off in scintillating fashion. After working on set pieces in training, practice would make perfect on the pitch as two well worked corners would see Ollie Pascoe and Jackson Fallon put the yellows 2 up after 15 minutes. The blistering start would continue as Bailey Griffiths and Shay Millin ensured Parkway would take a 4-goal advantage into the break.

The under-15’s didn’t let up against a shellshocked Southgate side and some superb goals would follow. Shay McCarthy, Jackson McManis and Oliver Coombe would add their names to the scoresheet. Harry Westlake would make his debut in goal and along with his backline laid the foundation for the attackers to take the limelight but sadly a clean sheet wasn’t to be as Southgate found a consolation. Parkway ended with a final goal as McCarthy hit his second to make it 8-1 at the final whistle. Fin Clarke would take home the Player of the Match award as the Yellows will look to continue their blistering start as they make the trip to Saltash United on Tuesday evening.

Under 13's

Whitleigh Youth 4

Plymouth Parkway 13

13 may be unlucky for some but not for Parkway under 13’s as a player of the match performance from Ernie Scott make it an opening day to remember for the Yellows.

The Under 13’s began the Adrenalin DJM U13 Trafalgar division against Whitleigh Youth in an early morning kick-off at Chaucer Way. The new look Under-13’s would see 7 new signings in the starting line-up, and it would be one of the new boys that opened the scoring after 3 minutes. Jayden Tranter would be the architect and Lohan Rice would add the finishing touch with a fine effort that nestled into the top corner. Tranter would continue to find that killer pass, this time for another new signing Gabriel Headlam to open his Parkway account. Tranter would make it a hat-trick of assists after only 10 minutes as Leo Orford hit his first. Orford’s second would follow moments later as he reacted quickest to a parried save from the Whitleigh Youth keeper.

Whitleigh showed their prowess with a wonder strike of their own but that didn’t derail the free-scoring Parkway. This time another new signing Laiton Wilsher showed his maturity as he kept his cool to find the net. Leo Orford would seal a first half hat-trick after only 22 minutes as he pounced on a mistake in the Whitleigh back four. An injury to Headlam would see a change made as Ernie Scott who showed his class as he entered the pitch and elevated Parkway further. Whitleigh pulled another back with a pearler of a strike, but it would be Orford who would hit his 4th of the game after a superb pass from Max Brockman.

Parkway would make a few changes at half time and the adjustment would see Whitleigh hit their 3rd of the game but it only seemed to spur the Yellows on. Orford would add his tally to five but to Whitleigh’s credit, they battled and found a 4th of their own. Former Whitleigh player Frankie Paolantonio had ha point to prove against his former team and that point was proven in style as he danced around three players and calmly slotted the ball home.

Provider Tranter would become goal scorer with a fine finish from outside the box. Paolantonio now enjoying himself would add a second from a Rice assist and moments later secured his hat-trick and Parkway’s 12th of the game. The 13th would arrive moments later as Leo Orford capped off a fine individual display with his 6th of the game as the Yellows started life in The Trafalgar division in superb style.

Parkway Colts 2

AFC Plympton 3

Parkway’s second Under 13’s team, Parkway Colts would begin opening day with a defeat after mistakes would cost them against AFC Plympton.

Despite the defeat, there was huge positives for the Colts to build on with one being the way they started the game. Confidence on the ball, decision making and holding their shape were all on show in the opening 25 minutes. This fine platform would see the Yellows take a two-goal advantage with the first coming from a superb team move which Rome finished well. Rome added his second after a fine half volley rattled into the roof of the net. Plympton would get themselves back into the game after some erratic and panicking defending. A resurgent Plympton would hit two more before the break and take the advantage into half time as all Parkway’s early hard work was undone.

Parkway emerged after the break and took the game to Plympton who themselves had a good shape about them as they soaked up wave after wave of Parkway’s attacks. Manager Joe Pulley would go on to say “Gutted for all the lads but heads up because we will play a lot worse and get results. As the Plympton manager said the opposite, they will play much better and probably lose.

Under 11's

Plymouth Parkway 8

Kelliwik FC 0

And finally, the Under 11’s would get off to a blistering start in their DJM campaign as they found the net 8 times against Kelliwik FC.

A player of the match performance from captain Danon would lay the foundations for the commanding opening day win. After a good pre-season, the team looked a little nervy and erratic in the first 10 minutes but once the nerves settled, they would take control and play some fantastic football throughout the game.

After a few missed chances, they would take the lead and once ahead, the crisp passing and high press would be executed brilliantly. Roman in the Parkway goal looked assured and his confidence spread throughout the team. The centre back pairing of Danon and Henry looked assured and comfortable, this would lead to Henry and Jack enjoying freedom on the wings. The midfield pairing of Semus, and Jake would work well with Semus adopting a man marking deep line roll as Jake had the opportunity to be as tenacious as ever.

Issac started doing what he does best, harassing the opposition, but when on the ball, was influential to the shape as made his space, then delivered the first-time pass for his teammates and his mornings work reflected on his smiley face at the final whistle. Ted would become a force to be reckoned with all morning. He worked his socks off and fears no one and his use of the ball was a credit to him, with his infamous ‘rollover’ move becoming a useful skill to have.

Louis P played a couple of positions for the Yellows and did so with a great, positive attitude and again, used the ball well on what was a slopey pitch with long grass. Eli gave his usual tough, no-nonsense performance, providing Parkway with the width they needed to use all the pitch and stretch Kelliwik and like all his team mates today, was demanding the ball and his midfield found him at every opportunity. Reece, like Louis played in a couple of positions today and gave his all as usual, adapting to whatever he was asked to do, and his contribution is such an asset to the team.

Goals: Louis P x 2 Elijah x 3 Teddy x 1 Reece x 1
