A Message From the Chairman

A Season of Transition

As we reach the end of another season, I wanted to personally take the opportunity to reflect and express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has contributed to what has been a truly transformative year for our football club.

Over the last 12 months, we’ve seen many positive changes both on and off the pitch. From a new management team to remarkable milestones in the club’s history, the progress made has been both encouraging and exciting.

Just a year ago, we were on the lookout for a new manager and coaching team to take the club forward. After speaking with Chris McPhee, it became clear very quickly that he was the right man for the job. Shortly after, we were introduced to Lee Peacock, and it was equally obvious that he would be a fantastic addition. Their energy, vision, and commitment gave us real confidence heading into the new season.

At that time, we had just one player signed. Chris and Lee got to work immediately, supported by the board, building a competitive squad within a responsible and sustainable budget. They also shared the board’s ambition to begin investing in younger players who could develop with the club, not only for this season but for years to come.

Recruitment over the summer was a real challenge. We relied on Chris and Lee’s contacts to bring in several players on loan. One of the biggest hurdles was finding a reliable goalkeeper. After an unsettled start, we were thrilled to bring in Alex Rutter, our first ever paid transfer. He has been outstanding, and we are excited to see him continue with us next season.

Some of our key signings this season included Taylor Scarff, Carlo Garside, and James Watts-Barciela, all of whom have become firm favourites among our supporters. We look forward to seeing them develop further in the years ahead.

A special thank you goes out to our friends at Exeter City, who supported us with talented young loanees like Tom Dean, Mitch Beardmore, and Liam Oakes. Thanks also to Cardiff City (Ewan Griffiths), Truro City (Tylor Love-Holmes), Torquay United,  Plymouth Argyle, Swindon Town, and Forest Green Rovers for their continued support throughout the season.

As is often the case, we started the season slowly. It took time for the squad to adapt to a new style of play and the expectations of the new management team. While the early results weren’t always what we wanted, the performances steadily improved. The hard work paid off with some memorable results, not least our historic FA Cup run, the furthest the club has ever progressed.

Developing young talent is a big part of our long-term vision, and this season saw one of our proudest achievements: Dylan Jones earning a trial and then completing a permanent move to Norwich City. In the closing weeks of the season, both Dylan and Tom Dean were named in first-team matchday squads for Norwich and Exeter, respectively. We wish them every success and hope to welcome them back to visit next season.

In early 2025, Chris and I began conversations to secure key players for next season. We’re pleased to have extended several contracts, putting us in a strong position going forward. Work is already underway to identify and secure our targets for the new campaign. Throughout the year, we’ve also welcomed several younger players to training, giving them the chance to experience the environment and develop under the guidance of Chris and Lee. We hope some of these players will earn regular spots in the future.

A huge thank you must go to our supporters. Your passion, dedication, and loyalty, even during tough spells, means everything. The atmosphere you create drives our team and helps build a culture of resilience and unity.

We’ve made major strides off the pitch too. Facility improvements have continued, including the new directors’ lounge. A special mention must go to Mag Developments SW for their outstanding support, and to Gez Baggott Decorators for helping freshen up the ground.

One of our proudest developments was offering Lee Peacock a full-time role as Head of Youth and Disability. Lee’s vast experience as a professional player and academy coach is already making a big impact. We launched a new coaching course for disabled adults in Plymouth, with 21 participants working towards their coaching qualifications under Lee’s guidance.

This initiative is just the beginning. We’re committed to building on our youth and disability programmes, developing more players, supporting coaches, and ensuring we provide opportunities for all.

The remainder of this year and the next will see the club launch even more initiatives aimed at long-term growth and sustainability, both on and off the pitch. Keep an eye on our social media channels for exciting announcements in the coming months.

Finally, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the board members, management, players, coaches, staff, volunteers, and of course, our incredible supporters. Every one of you plays a part in our journey. Without your dedication and belief, we are nothing.

Let’s keep pushing forward together and take Parkway to the next level.
