Plymouth Parkway have completed the signing of Jack Matthews, with the 20-year-old central defender joining from National League South side Truro City on a three-month loan.

Born and raised in Cornwall, Matthews began his footballing journey with Newquay before joining the academy at Plymouth Argyle, where he progressed through the ranks and made his first-team debut in an FA Cup tie against Leeds United in 2024.

He has since gained valuable senior experience with loan spells at Taunton Town and Bath City, including a campaign where he made around 40 appearances for Taunton.

Matthews now returns to Plymouth, where he already knows a number of faces within the Parkway squad and has previously worked with manager Karl Curtis during his time in the Argyle Academy.

Karl Curtis said:

“We are really pleased to welcome Jack to the club. I’ve worked with Jack before in the Argyle Academy system and have kept a close eye on his progress, so I know exactly the type of player we are recruiting.

“Jack has previous experience playing plenty of games for Taunton and Bath City in recent seasons, which will give him a good platform to start his Parkway journey.

“As soon as Matt Godfree made me aware that Jack could be available, it was something we wanted to happen and move on fast.

“We want to support Jack’s development over the next three months and hope Jack returns to Truro at the end of his time with us as an even more experienced and improved player.”

Speaking to Parkway TV, Matthews said he was delighted to be back in Plymouth.

“Being a local lad, you always know what you’re going to get from the club. I’m really, really happy to be here.

“Plymouth for me is pretty much home. It’s nice to be in familiar surroundings because when you’re happy at home, you always play better.”

Asked what Parkway supporters can expect from him, Matthews added:

“Every game I’ll give 100%, no matter the weather or the pitch. I’m hungry, I want to win.

“I love a tackle and, when I can, I’ll try and play football. Definitely composure, I’d like to be composed and try and lead the line as well.”

Matthews is available for selection ahead of Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup fixture against Frome Town.
