Palmer is a YellowBy Mike Parrish
Plymouth Parkway are delighted to announce the signing of experienced defender Ed Palmer from Tiverton Town on a contract until the end of the season.
The 34-year-old will be available for selection ahead of next Tuesday’s home fixture against Gloucester City as Karl Curtis continues to strengthen his squad for the remainder of the campaign.
A familiar face across the South West, Palmer brings a wealth of experience at this level and above, having represented a number of clubs throughout his career, including Torquay United, Truro City, Taunton Town and Weymouth.
Palmer began his career with Torquay United, progressing through the ranks as a youngster before establishing himself in senior football. His time at Truro City included four separate spells with the Tinners, helping the club win promotion to the National League South in 2015 before playing a key role in their 2023 Southern League play-off final victory.
During the 2023/24 campaign, Palmer made 41 league appearances for Truro, scoring six goals as the club secured its Step Two status. He subsequently returned to Torquay United, making 33 appearances during the 2024/25 season as the Gulls came close to securing promotion.
Having previously played at Bolitho Park for Truro City, the move to Parkway represents a new chapter at a familiar venue for the defender.
Speaking following his arrival, Palmer said:
“It’s something that’s always been in the back of my mind, with lads who have played here before and the club being so close to home. I didn’t think it would happen now, but the timing was just right for me.
“I’ve played most of my football around this league and the league above, so I know it really well.”
Palmer also spoke positively about his first meeting with Curtis and the opportunity to work under the Parkway manager.
“I’d heard a lot of really good things about Karl from players who have played under him and people who know him. He came across really well and was really knowledgeable.”
With Taylor Scarff having recently departed for Torquay United, Palmer arrives with an opportunity to add experience and presence to the heart of the Parkway defence.
“It’s perfect timing, really. Hopefully, I can slot in there and do whatever I need to do,” he added.
Parkway manager Karl Curtis was delighted to secure Palmer’s services.
“I know I speak on behalf of everyone involved in the club when I say that we are delighted to secure the services of Ed Palmer.
“Ed is a player who has so much experience at our level and the levels above and will add extra pitch personality to our team. I personally can’t wait to start working with him, and I know my staff and players feel exactly the same.
“We look forward to welcoming Ed and his family to Bolitho.”
With considerable experience, leadership qualities and a strong understanding of the division, Palmer now turns his attention to helping Parkway build on their progress throughout the remainder of the season.
Everyone at Plymouth Parkway welcomes Ed and his family to Bolitho Park.
