McPhee and Peacock commit to Parkway
The boys are back in townBy Jack Hobbs
We are thrilled to announce that manager Chris McPhee and assistant manager Lee Peacock have committed to Plymouth Parkway for the 2025/26 season.
Having joined last summer, both McPhee and Peacock guided the club to a respectable 13th place in the Southern South Football League.
Speaking on putting pen to paper on his new deal, McPhee said: “I am delighted to have signed a contract extension.
“I am pleased that the club has put faith in Lee and I, and the direction we are looking to take the club forward in.
“We had some great moments last season and we have set a lot of markers that we are keen to beat next season.
“We are hard at work trying to assemble a squad that we feel can hit pre-season hard in preparation for the campaign ahead. It was great to get so many lads on board early and now for us to have made it official, we can’t wait to build on last season.
“Hopefully soon we can announce some additions to the Parkway squad. Enjoy your summer, Macca.”
Assistant manager Lee Peacock added: “I’m over the moon to be extending for another year at Plymouth Parkway.”
“The club has become a huge part of my life with my role has expanding from assisting Macca with the 1st team duties, to heading up the youth and mentoring the disability coaching course.
“Last season, we overcame the spread of the year and had a relatively successful season, with some real highs and the obvious lows. I believe that we and the team have helped to bring some attractive and effective football to the club, which the fans have bought into.
“It was difficult start last season with a lack of players signed and losing half the squad, but through hard work off the field from everyone involved from Macca, Mark, Genny and many others, we developed a squad that held its own in the league for large parts of the season.
“We feel with the commitment of the players who signed contract extensions and the higher interest in players wanting to join the club at this stage that we are in a healthier position than this time last season.
“With all that in mind, we are looking forward to getting back to work. I will be running a pre-preseason for the players who want to brush up on technical stuff and we will have a look at trialists prior to our pre-season return date.
“This again should put us in a stronger position than where we were this time last year.”
Securing Chris and Lee to new deals has been a high priority and club Chairman, Mark Russell, expressed his delight in the pair have committing their short-term futures to the Yellows.
“Chris agreeing to stay on for another year is great for the football club”, said Russell.
“Over the last 12 months, I have personally built a very good relationship with Chris and I’m aware of the hours of hard work that are put into the club.
“When I first spoke to Chris a year or so ago, I knew he would bring a different style and environment to the club which I felt would benefit us, not only on the pitch but off it as well.
“I am extremely pleased with the massive progression we have made.
“Chris was asked to make sure we improved players, recruit and support younger players, build partnerships with professional clubs, and most importantly, build a team that could stay in the Southern South League.
“It was a tough first season. A lot of lessons were learnt by everyone, and things needed to be adapted as the season went on, but Chris was always willing to listen to players, board members, and fans who wanted to help improve the team.
“We must also remember despite having some tough periods, we had some superb moments as well. Reaching a club record round in the FA Cup, securing our first ever paid-for transfer in Alex Rutter and of course selling academy graduate Dylan Jones to Norwich – a first for the club and something Chris played a huge part in.
“I am really looking forward to working with Chris over the summer to bring some new players to the club, to continue our strategy of supporting the youth, as well as building a team capable of pushing for a high finish in the league.
“I believe we have a manager who really cares about the club and is able to collaborate with Lee to improve players. I am looking forward to seeing us continue to improve this season and for many more.”
Speaking on additionally tying Lee Peacock down to a new deal, Russell said:
“Lee Peacock joined the club a year ago and straight away made friends with everyone.”
“His personality is very difficult to not like, and over the first few months, it became obvious how well Lee and Chris worked together.
“Lee has not only helped improve players with his knowledge of the game but has supported many of them when they need that little bit of advice or support to get through some tough moments.
“Lee joined the club full time during the season, which was a massive step forward for the club and he has been so passionate about his job.
“I truly believe he has found in us a club he really enjoys being a part of.
“Lee and myself have built a great relationship and I am really pleased that he has agreed to stay on with the club for another season and hopefully many more.”
The sentiments were echoed by vice-chairman Gez Baggott who shares:
“We as a board are delighted that Chris and Lee have agreed to extend their stay with us for another league campaign.
“We honestly feel we have the potential to be competing for play off positions with a settled side and the benefit of the management team now having a full season behind them both.
“When Mark and myself interviewed Chris last pre-season, we were very impressed with how Chris conducted himself and his ideas on how he want us as a team to play football – in the correct manner.
This not only got results but attracted people to the club.
“When he arrived ,not only was he new to the league but we didn’t have a full squad to work with, as the season progressed, the squad gradually became stronger and results showed this.
“Bringing in Lee, who is totally different to Chris, was a masterstroke and they work very close together and both bring many different things to the table to improve the players.
“With the help of Stu Dudley and the commitment of the board, I can only see good things for the football club in the future. I’m personally pleased they have both agreed to sign forms.
Everyone at Plymouth Parkway would like to congratulate Chris and Lee on their new deals at the club, and we look forward to another season under their stewardship.
