Matt Wright Departs
By Jack Hobbs
Plymouth Parkway can confirm Matt Wright’s departed from the club following the end of the 2024/25 season.
Since joining in 2020, the striker has played a significant role in Parkway’s offence, appearing 95 times and scoring 18 goals across two spells at Bolitho Park.
Despite having injury setbacks and often playing in the lone striker role, Wrights performances have been of immense value over the last couple of seasons but, as it so often happens in football, the time has come to part ways.
“I’d just like to say a massive thank you to everyone involved with the club”, said Wright.
“A big thanks to Leezo for bringing me back to the club when it probably wasn’t the most popular decision. I really believe the club can kick on now with Macca and Peaks alongside a couple of signings.
“Thanks to the supporters, who have supported us home and away, but a special mention to the away support. They travel hours to support us, and I just want them to know that the lads really appreciate it.
“Finally. the lads. A superb dressing room to be in. A great bunch that’s been a pleasure to be around. Through adversity two seasons ago, they’ve never stopped giving 100% which is testament to them.
“Hopefully I’ll see you all around soon!”
Speaking on the forward’s contributions in a Parkway shirt, manager Chris McPhee said:
“Wrighty’s made some big contributions for us this season and he’s had some good, memorable moments. Obviously, his hattrick in the FA Cup early stages was quite monumental.
“The way that he has conducted himself over the last six months he’s been valuable on the pitch and off the pitch with some of his support of the young players. He’s an experienced player who has shared his experiences with the younger players and helped them and guided them and given some a different dimension.
“Wrighty’s done some great work over this season to get himself into good shape and make some contributions and he’s probably has played a lot more minutes than he probably expected at the start the season.
“He’s had a great attitude, and his involvement within the dressing room has really helped consolidate some of our ideas as a management staff.
“We thank Wrighty for his efforts and commitment this season and wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”
Club Chairman, Mark Russell added: “We wish Matt all the best in the future and hope to see him at the ground moving forward.
“Matt has put a lot of work in this season and has ended the campaign in strong fashion. He has always been a strong voice in the changing room and off the pitch and has been a great experienced player to have had in the group for the last couple of years.”
Everyone at the club would like to thank Matt for his services over the last couple of years and we will him the very best in his next move.
