Parkway vs Winchester City
Pitching In Southern Premier League South
Bolitho Park. 3pm KO

Plymouth Parkway returns to Bolitho Park for Match Day Four of this season’s Southern League campaign.

After an opening day defeat at home against Basingstoke, the Yellows have been on the road in their last two outings with back-to-back fixtures against relegated sides from the National League. Macca’s men suffered a 3-2 midweek defeat under the lights against Gloucester City but followed up with a fine 1-1 draw at Havant & Waterlooville at the weekend.

Each game has provided positives for the squad, who have quickly bought into the new management’s long-term project. A fine first-half performance, a strong second-half showing at Gloucester, and a gritty, and at times, back-to-the-wall display against Havant have shown encouraging signs for the new look Parkway!

The emphasis will now be on trying to find that elusive first win of the season, and Macca and his squad will have two attempts ahead of a busy bank holiday weekend. The focus for now will shift to the visit of Winchester City before a mouthwatering all-Devon fixture away to Tiverton Town on Bank Holiday Monday.

Having been promoted to the Southern League via the play-offs at the end of the 2021/22 season, Winchester has enjoyed two strong and encouraging seasons in the Southern Premier League South. Their first season earned a 16th place finish, and last season, the Citizens finished 11th with 57 points from 42 games. They are a club heading in the right direction under manager Craig Davis and are currently playing their home games at the Winklebury Football Complex, home of Basingstoke Town, due to a new 3G pitch being laid and work being carried out at the Simplyhealth City Ground.

Winchester started positively with a point on the road against Marlow but have since suffered back-to-back home defeats. A Cameron Munn hat-trick helped Wimborne run out 4-2 winners and was followed by a 2-0 defeat to Gosport Borough on Sunday afternoon. Despite these setbacks, Craig Davis will bring his squad to Plymouth in good spirits as both sides look for their first three points of the season.

With Jack Crago still on loan, Parkway welcomes back Rio and Carlo Garside along with Ryan Brett. The only injury concerns for Parkway ahead of the fixture will be Callum Hall and Alex Cairo. Both players will be assessed by Parkway’s back-room staff later in the week before Macca decides on his matchday squad. Luke McCormick will be included in the squad as the management continue their search for a permanent keeper following Zak Baker’s recall to Plymouth Argyle.

Parkway will open the Full Time Club House from 12pm on Saturday and encourage fans to arrive early to catch Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth Argyle face QPR live on the big screens, before the main event kicks off at 3pm.

Head-to-Head:
Last season’s encounters both featured 1-1 scorelines. Shane White’s 16th-minute goal earned Parkway a point on the road, and a 22nd-minute strike from Tom Purrington at Home Park secured a point for the Yellows.
