Parkway Youth Round Up

5 - Plymouth Parkway

4 - Lakeside

Written by Emma Hermon-Wright.

A nice quick start to the game saw a clear, clever cross by Jacob to Kit whose volley did not quite have the power, but his quick reactions to follow it up, gave Parkway the first goal. 1-0

Another attempt on goal created by Parkway and Riley’s fantastic shot was met with an equally strong save. Unluckily the Parkway then gave away an own goal so had to pick up the pace to make amends, 1-1

Super play and fight by Riley and Evan kept the ball up high for much of the play and some truly inspirational moments of play, kept the spectators on edge and alert. But there were flashes of green in the midfield that kept getting through and causing moments of panic and put Parkway under more pressure than they needed. It only takes one of these to find the net and take the lead which is exactly what Lakeside did. 2-1

Then parkway had to swallow and uncomfortable Penalty which saw the lead starting to disappear further away from them 3-1

In the 2nd half it was Lakeside however that would give away an own goal to take the score line to a close 3-2. Evan sent a beautiful ball out to Alfie to run onto with a cool punch past the goalkeeper to equalise. 3-3. This game was anyone’s to win as both teams fought hard.

Then, with a stunner of a strike from Jacob from 20 yards, Parkway regained the lead finally and hoped this was when it really mattered. 4-3. Tension was plentiful for the final few minutes of the game and as if that wasn’t enough, a penalty for Parkway gave a further opportunity which Alfie snatched with passion making it 5-3 to Parkway.

The game was still not over … quite …and lakeside sneaked another one in just before the final whistle, but it was Parkway that took home the three points with a 5-4 win.

4 - Plymouth Parkway

1 - Torpoint

By Vicky Ware

Parkways first league game since November saw them continue their unbeaten record this season.

From the whistle, Torpoint were strong putting Parkways defence under pressure and testing Parkway’s number 1. Parkway battled through the first half and at half time kept the score 0-0.

Parkway came out fighting in the second half and it took only a few minutes for Finn Walker to find the back of the net. Torpoint came back straight away with a goal to go 1-1.

Parkway continued to raise their game with the midfielders battling and the team working well together to put pressure on Torpoint defence, and it was not long before a further two goals came from Liam Blackwell and Sam Rutter. A final goal from Jack Stephens sealed the win. MOM was given to Josh Bernard.

3 - MAP (friendly)

By Joe Pulley

Brilliant display by Parkway today running one of the best sides in the county close.

This Map team have beaten Marjon’s 10-1 and Plymstock by a similar score line.

MOM: Birthday Boy Luke

Goals: Connor, Rome and Kings

Every player put in a massive shift today and showed why we are becoming a top-level side.

We went 1 nil up through Connor midway through the first half, a corner by Kings found Connor to nod it home. The game was end to end but in a purple patch Map struck 3 times as they turned the screw.

Bang on half time Kings spurned a chance but from the resulting corner Rome put us back in the game 3-2 half time.

Now believing in ourselves we went at Map like the first 20 mins of the 1st half and could have got the equaliser, unfortunately Map took another chance, and we were 2 goals behind again.

The heads didn’t drop and a 25yd dipping volley from Kings beat the keeper to make it 4-3.

Map now rattled started to argue and the next goal was always going to decide the game.

Map with some neat football punished a moment of poor defending and got that important goal 5-3.

With a few minutes to go Map wrapped up the game 6-3.

A great workout for the lads and superb work rate.

Thought we defended superbly and at times played some top draw football under pressure.

Thanks all of you.
