Parkway Under 18's reach the Cup final and the Under 11's age group enjoy a fine weekend
1 - Plymouth Parkway 1 - Marjon Youth
Parkway entertained Marjon youth on a sunny yet bitter Saturday morning. The game would be full of quality from both sides, but it would be Parkway who would start on top. Maison would be the pick of the players in the early exchanges with some jinking runs and excellent range of passing. With Maison purring in midfield, Parkway would fashion early chances and looked dangerous at set plays but the elusive first goal couldn’t be found.
Marjon would grow into the game and begin to carve out chances of their own as Parkway’s shot stopper Jack was called upon to keep the game goalless. The game would become more open with both sides carving out chances only for the execution to be lacking. It looked the game would be heading for stalemate, but the stars would align for birthday boy Freddie to put the Parkway ahead. A loose kick by the Marjon keeper would be seized upon by Freddie and his first-time volley would find the net and put Parkway ahead.
Marjon would try and find an equaliser as the minutes ticked away but Parkway would hold firm and pick up another important win against very good opposition. The birthday boy Freddie would not only win the game for his team, but he would also walk away with the converted player of the match award.
4 - Kelliwick 6 - Plymouth Parkway
Kelliwick FC 4-6 Plymouth Parkway Under 11’s.
Goals were the order of the day as Parkway travelled to Callington to face Kelliwick FC.
On a chilly morning and narrow pitch, Parkway took a while to settle into their passing routine but that didn’t last for long. Their first neat string of passes would see them take the lead as Semas finished off a fine move.
Kelliwick looked dangerous at set pieces and a good corner would see them get back into the game. Parkway would fail to clear, and they would be punished as the Kelliwick player would finish well from inside the box.
The setback didn’t seem to phase Parkway and they would retake the lead moments later as Issac found his shooting boots and found the back of the net from distance. Two became three minutes later as a customary late run into the box by Teddy would see the midfielder finish well.
Further goals would be added by Elijah, Isaac, and Semas as Parkway moved out of sight. With a full quota of players, the management were able to make regular changes throughout the second half as all the squad got valuable minutes.
With regular changes, Kelliwick would find a late flourish and added three goals to their tally but the hard work had already been done by Parkway as they would see the game out well in the final minutes and continue their superb season with another important win.
1 - Plymouth Parkway 0 - Elburton Villa
Parkway backed up their County cup quarter-final success last week with another clean sheet and another victory in this season’s league cup semi-final tie. The game was scrappy and Elburton were much improved in comparison to their league performances against the yellows, making it very difficult for Parkway to get into their rhythm, and huge credit to them for playing their part in a gripping cup tie.
The first half saw Elburton have the better chances, but for some fine goalkeeping from Alfie Wihite in the Parkway goal, it could have easily been a completely different scoreline at the end of the first half. Elburton hit the bar right on the break, with the score ending 0-0.
Parkway started the second half much brighter and increased their intensity. Putting Elburton on the back foot as they looked to be a little more creative in the final third. Elburton looked dangerous on the counter attack all throughout the second half though, but Taylor Davey, Brandon Gavican-Lapthorn and Ryan Geach held firm and put on a defensive display to be proud of. The decisive moment came in the 65th minute when a free-kick was awarded after Chrisitan Moss was brought down on the edge of the area. Jacob Smith stepped up and showed the composure and quality he has by putting the ball in the back of the net directly from the resulting free-kick.
Parkway edged the second half however, they did ride their luck at times, holding on for the win and setting up a mouthwatering final with fellow high flyers, Truro City.
