Team Focus: Under 18’s

Parkway’s Under 18s are enjoying a very successful season so far with a 100% record from their first 10 competitive fixtures.    We are fortunate to have a group of youngsters who are showing ambition and desire to progress and develop through the ranks at Parkway.

It’s with great thanks to the support of Plymouth Tea and Down2Business that we now have new home and away strips.

The players are developing well and relishing their opportunities to play for the reserves and first team when needed.     Every player that has stepped up has contributed well with Fin McBeth and Connor Spear (assisted by Lewis Guest) scoring on their debuts for the reserves and first team respectively.

There is real optimism that good times lay ahead for this group of players.   Coaches Ged King and Jeff Spear have belief that many of the team can develop to play at higher levels of the game – ideally supporting Parkway’s ambitions to rise through the leagues over the coming years.

The team rose through junior football at Plymstock United and have been together since Under 7 football.   They were all under 16 last season, so effectively play up a year at present. The system we play relies on quality possession football and a collective team spirit and it’s effective.    On our day, we are a match for any team, always entertaining and certainly worth a watch.

Historically, we have produced quality footballers; the likes of Sam Clifton, George Warren, Ross Hamilton, Scott Wickens and Alex Kelly have spent time at Exeter or Argyle; many have had trials.   The whole squad has good technical ability with all comfortable on the ball, including goalkeeper Kane Gregory.

It’s fair to say that league opposition so far has been disappointing and the team are currently joint top with 5 wins and a significant goal difference.    The semi-final of the DJM League Cup beckons, where we will face Edgcumbe FC away.    In the Devon Cup, we have progressed with excellent victories against Galmpton United, Central Youth (Exeter) and Alphington Youth.   Our quarter final opponents (and last year’s finalists) Tavistock AFC will visit Millbay Park on Sunday 11th December (2pm) in a fixture that promises to be a cracker!

Be great to see some of Parkway’s supporters at Millbay Park.
