Parkway back on home soil as Gosport head to PL5

Parkway v Gosport Borough | Match Preview

By Alex Haynes

After a crushing 7-0 defeat on the opening day of the season at the hands of Hungerford Town, Plymouth Parkway will be eager to bounce back and make a statement in front of home fans when they face Gosport Borough this Saturday at Bolitho.

All defeats are tough to take, but this one was especially difficult as the Yellows also lost captain Ryan Lane due to a red card in the second half.

Despite the nature of this defeat, Parkway will still come away from the fixture knowing that the result isn’t an accurate representation of their quality, and everyone involved will have certainly learnt some harsh lessons. This was a stark reminder of how difficult this league can be.

Gosport Borough on the other hand fared much better in their season opener, beating Bracknell Town 2-0. Parkway will need to make sure that they have regained their confidence and are able to put last weekend’s loss behind them before stepping out onto the pitch at Bolitho against a poised Boro side. The fact that this is the first home game of the season will surely give the team a boost.

The Yellows will have to make do with the absence of their captain on Saturday afternoon. Lane will be there to guide the team regardless, but vice-captain Callum Rose will take the armband for the match. Parkway will know that they can perform at a higher level than last weekend, so expect a much-improved performance this time around as the team look to begin a good run of form early in the season.

Another boost for Parkway is the welcome return of Harrison King. The defender has joined on a month’s loan from Exeter City and will be available for selection ahead of Saturday’s encounter.
