Home Is Where The Park Is

Parkway v Poole Town | Match Preview

After securing a solid point on the road at Basingstoke Town, Plymouth Parkway are hoping to add to their points tally as they welcome Poole Town to Bolitho Park on Monday.

The Yellows earned a 1-1 draw away at The Stokes with Ryan Brett scoring his second goal of the season but were pegged back by 10-men Basingstoke thank to a header from Billy Upson.

Speaking after the game, manager Chris McPhee said: “If I’m honest, from the position that we were in, I feel as though it’s two points dropped.”

“We got ourselves playing some good stuff and scoring a goal after them getting a man sent off. You get in a position where you’re 1-0 up at halftime against a team that got 10 men on a pitch that suits our style of play, keeping the ball.

“I would have liked to have seen us be a bit braver keeping the ball and it was disappointing to concede in the last 10 minutes after defending bravely, but I did feel as though we gave them ball back quite easily, considering they did have 10 men.

“It’s disappointing to be in that kind of position and not being able to see the game out.

“Despite this, it is a good point on the road. We would have taken it before the game, but it does feel like two points lost when you’re in that position so late on in the game.

“We’ll have to kind of lick our wounds a little bit, rally the troops as we’ve got a quick turnaround on Monday at home game against Poole Town, which is not going to be an easy task by any stretch.”

In a quick turnaround, Parkway welcome Poole Town to Bolitho Park on Monday with just one day of recovery.

The Dolphins sit 7th in the table after two wins, a draw, and a loss in their opening four league games – the most recent of which being a 1-1 draw at home to Evesham United.

Parkway will be looking ahead to this fixture with fond memories, having completed the double against Poole last season, winning 3-1 in both fixtures.

Speaking on the prospect of a quick turnaround, McPhee said: “We’ll have a bit of a look and see what the fallout is after Saturday in terms of fitness, in terms of availability and we’ll try and make sure that whatever happens we’ve got a squad that can adapt and rotate.”

“If we feel it’s necessary going into the Poole game, we’ll adapt and change. There’ll probably be one or two little changes, little tweaks the system, but it is important that whichever players are starting or coming off the bench, they make their contribution.

“We felt that we got ourselves in a good position on Saturday and we need to make sure that we can see those kinds of games through. If we want to be in the in the top half of the division, pushing towards that top end, we’ve got to make sure that when we get in positions like that (against 10 men), we can manage game better and see games out.

“It’s a chance to bounce back against Poole Town on Monday and try and get a positive result. We’ll be going for a win at home for sure and it’s really important that the boys look after themselves in the meantime, get the right food, hydrate and stretch, look after themselves, maybe jump in the pool over the over the weekend and then turn up as fresh as possible on Monday.”
