Parkway Exit the FA Cup

Parkway v Frome Town | Match Report

Plymouth Parkway’s FA Cup campaign came to a premature end on Saturday after they were dismantled 0-4 by Frome Town at Bolitho Park.

The Robins, who had been relegated from the Southern South Premier last season, thoroughly outworked Parkway in the first half and found themselves 0-3 up at the break thanks to goals from George Dowling, David Duru, and an own goal from Max Edgecombe.

Albie Hopkins then made it 0-4 early in the second half, heading home a cross from Duru to well and truly put Parkway to bed.

Parkway started the game sluggishly and found themselves behind in under 10 minutes.

Zak Drew did really well to enter the box and breeze past Ryan Brett before cutting the ball back to Dowling who found the top right corner to give Frome Town a dream start.

Both Jack Veale and Carlo Garside were forced to throw their bodies on the line just minutes later to deny Frome a quick second, after a poor pass-back gifted the away side another attempt at goal.

The bad start was then made worse when Max Edgecombe accidentally headed home from a Frome freekick making it 0-2 to The Robins after just 22 minutes.

Parkway should have halved the deficit three minutes later when a good corner from Carlo Garside found Cruis Nyadzayo at the back post. The ball fell kindly for the striker but instead of smashing home, his effort sailed over the bar.

To add insult to injury, Frome then added a third through Duru who was played through on goal and finished strongly into the bottom left corner past Mack Allan

With the game all but lost, Parkway started to show more fight and they came close through Rio Garside, who tested Kyle Phillips with a decent curling effort from a freekick just outside the box.

Despite this, Frome started the second half in a similar manor to the first, scoring early on through Hopkins who headed home Duru’s cross to make it 0-4 and completely kill and small hopes of a Parkway second half resurrection.

The away side were pegged back in some respect after Theo Llewellyn was shown a straight red card for an elbow on Rio Garside in the 74th minute, but it was far too late to have any meaningful consequences.

Although a bitterly disappointing result, the fixture gave young striker Aiden Warne his first minutes of the season after joining from Tamar View.

The young forward almost made an instant impact, forcing Phillips to tip his deflected shot from outside the box over the bar, in what was Parkway’s last meaningful effort of the game.

The Yellows are back in action on Saturday and will need your support as they travel away to Havant & Waterlooville.
