Back to Bolitho for Another Crucial Test

Parkway v Yate Town | Match Preview

By Mike Parrish

With Plymouth still drying off following another night of torrential rain during Tuesday’s clash with Wimborne Town, Parkway will not mind the conditions too much, because with the rain came three points.

The victory ended a five-game losing run and restored something that has been missing in recent weeks: belief.

In a season that has often tested patience, the Yellows produced a second-half performance that reflected the foundations the club has long been built on. Interim manager Stuart Dudley spoke afterwards about the underdog mentality and the refusal to accept defeat, qualities he knows better than most during his long association with the football club.

With Dudley now at the helm, it perhaps felt fitting that when Parkway needed to rediscover the ‘Parkway way’, it was a familiar figure guiding them back towards it.

Trailing at half-time on Tuesday night with the wind and rain swirling around Bolitho Park, Dudley challenged his players to find a hero. That hero arrived in the unlikely form of full-back Jensen Ireland. The Plymouth lad, rapidly becoming a fan favourite, struck twice alongside Mikey Williams to drag Parkway back into the survival conversation.

Now attention turns to another crucial test.

Yate Town arrive at Bolitho Park on Saturday afternoon sitting just outside the relegation zone. The Bluebells are two points better off than Parkway, albeit having played a game more, and currently occupy 18th place on 35 points.

Earlier in February they hammered six past Hungerford Town, but results since have been harder to come by. Yate are currently without a win in six matches, picking up just a single point courtesy of Alexander Monk’s late equaliser against Wimborne Town last weekend.

They will still travel to Devon with confidence from the reverse fixture earlier in the season when a dramatic 90th-minute strike from Oliver Jenkins sealed victory over Parkway, a scenario the Yellows are all too familiar with.

If Tuesday’s win over Wimborne was important, this contest falls firmly into the “massive” category as the season moves into its final quarter.

Dudley could also receive a timely boost with the possible returns of Taylor Scarff and James Watts-Barciela as the squad continues to take shape. There might also be further new faces heading to Bolitho Park as the club ask fans to keep updated via the clubs social media channels.

The narrative hardly needs building.

With Plymouth Argyle away at Reading, the message to the Plymouth public is simple… Bolitho Park is the place to be on Saturday afternoon. Parkway’s community club will once again call on the city to rally behind the local lads as they look to take another step away from trouble.
