The Preview: Chichester City vs Parkway

By Connor Thomas

Following the magic of the FA Cup last Saturday, Plymouth Parkway now turn their focus to a long 366-mile round trip away to Chichester City.

Parkway will be looking to claim all three points and reclaim their spot at the summit of the Southern League Premier South. Poole Town moved top on Wednesday night following their 3-1 win away at Gosport Borough, moving Parkway down to 2nd.

This game follows the memorable comeback in the FA Cup where Parkway scored two in as many minutes to knock out Horsham, booking their place in the fourth qualifying round where the draw gave a home tie against Chertsey Town.

The Yellows look difficult to break down, attacking with force and defending in numbers, goals are being scored with precision and composure. Focus will be vital if they are to continue playing this well.

Parkway’s opposition have seen a decent start to the season, sitting ninth with four wins from nine, although they are yet to win a league match since the end of August.

The Lilywhites are also competing in this league for the first time following their transfer from the Isthmian League Premier Division last season, where they finished 12th.

The last affair between these two teams came in 2024 where Chichester ran away with a 4-0 at Bolitho Park in the FA Trophy, three goals in the second half sealed the game.

Parkway’s last league game saw them concede late to draw at Gloucester City. Rocky Neal had put Parkway ahead in the first half until Ethan Dunbar scored at the death to prevent three points going back to Plymouth.

Chichester’s most recent league meeting saw them fall to a 2-1 defeat away to Hanworth Villa. The Lilywhites were unable to turn around the game after conceding two in the first half. Chichester played in the Sussex Senior Cup on Tuesday night, they came away with a resounding 6-1 win at Peacehaven & Telscombe, sending them through to the third round.

Parkway, having not played a midweek game, has had a week to recover and train following five games in 14 days. For Karl Curtis’ side, they will be looking to carry this six-match unbeaten run in the league and turn it into seven games without defeat.

Parkway’s manager will be welcoming back Henry Donovan into the squad following his cup ineligibility. Mikey Williams will have a late fitness test to determine whether he will travel with the squad to Sussex.
