Parkway set their sights on the Powerday

Hanwell Town vs Parkway | Match Preview

By Mike Parrish

Plymouth Parkway return to Southern League action tomorrow evening with a long midweek trip to the capital to face Hanwell Town.

Last Saturday, Parkway returned to action with a 3-0 defeat against Swindon Supermarine, though the scoreline didn’t reflect the competitiveness of the game. The Yellows can be applauded for their application and energy throughout the 90 minutes. Had some key moments been converted into goals, the game might have had a different narrative.

The manager was candid in his post-match press duties, acknowledging the aforementioned points and praising not only his players but also crediting Swindon for managing the game well, capitalising on their chances, and defending well when required.

Despite the recent string of defeats, with four games without a goal, Parkway remain optimistic. They continue to create chances, and with good choices in attack, there’s hope that once they score that elusive goal, more will follow, translating into much-needed Southern League points.

Swindon’s win moved them to 16th in the table, dragging Sholing and Hayes & Yeading into the relegation battle, with Parkway currently occupying the final relegation place with 31 points from 25 games.

However, Parkway still has games in hand against teams above them and will hope for an uninterrupted run of games to reignite their season’s campaign.

The last victory for Parkway dates back to January 23, with a midweek trip to London resulting in a 2-0 win over Hayes and Yeading. Tomorrow, Parkway return to London for a midweek fixture, aiming to replicate that success against a good Hanwell Town side.

Affectionately known as Hanwell Toon or the London Geordies, Hanwell sit 14th in the table and will seek to capitalize on home advantage. Manager Chris Moore’s side already secured three points from Parkway this season with a 2-1 away win at Bolitho and will aim to complete the double when they meet tomorrow at the Powerday.

Hanwell will be full of confidence following their recent 2-1 away win against Walton & Hersham, preceded by an impressive draw against runaway leaders Chesham United. They aim to return to winning ways at the Powerday, having suffered a defeat in their last home fixture against Swindon Supermarine.

This marks Parkway’s second fixture in a busy seven days, with a late return from London followed by a significant home test against Merthyr Town 48 hours later, culminating in a crucial fixture against Hayes & Yeading on Saturday.
