Can the Lads Go Even Further?
Parkway v Ivybridge Town | Match PreviewBy Lewis Retallick
No league action for this one, but the County Cup is calling The Yellows’ name in what is set to be a good one. Plymouth welcome Ivybridge Town to Bolitho for this clash, and let’s hope Parkway can continue from their last game. They are following on from a 2-1 win to Chertsey on the weekend which had some brilliant last-minute drama.
It was a great match at Bolitho, with The Yellows putting in a shift and grabbing another vital three points. It kicked off fast with Plymouth being awarded a penalty in the third minute after Love-Holmes was tripped in the box, and Shane White calmly made it 1-0. It seemed like Parkway were in control but in the 21st minute the visitors made it 1-1 through Callum Duffy.
Chertsey were then awarded a penalty themselves in the 64th minute after Mikey Williams made the challenge in the box, but McCormick made the save and kept the scoreline level. The game was almost over, but Love-Holmes bagged himself a deserved goal after the ball bobbled to him in the 91st minute, and Parkway took all three points.
Parkway have recently been struggling in some departments, as their performances prove. They have only got two wins in their last five, a draw and two defeats and the form in front of goal as well as defending their own net, has dipped slightly. They’ve managed to score seven and have conceded 10 goals, which could certainly be better.
Ivybridge play in the Jewson Western League but are not going to make it easy for Parkway in this fixture. Their form is not bad, as their last five have resulted in two wins, two defeats and a draw. They have managed to score eight in their recent games, and most of those goals came from their match against Welton Rovers where they won 5-0. Their most recent game was a 0-0 draw against Buckland Athletic, but one key point to take from this is the fact that they have kept a clean sheet in all of their last three games, so maybe their defence will be hard to get by – who knows.
We previously played them in 2023, and The Yellows came out on top with a solid 3-0 win, so I’m sure the lads will be looking to repeat that and progress further into the competition.
