Plymouth Parkway left it late to give Norwich City bound Dylan Jones an eventful send-off with a deserved 2-1 win over Chertsey Town despite losing boss Chris McPhee to a controversially red card.
The 41-year-old was shown a straight red for allegedly ‘smashing the ball at the linesman’ despite not being involved in the situation.
Despite the major error of judgement from the officials, Parkway were able to seal victory late on thanks to a 91st minute winner from Tylor Love-Holmes after captain Shane White had opened the scoring from the penalty spot.

Speaking after the game, McPhee said: “It was a very, very tricky game for 100 different reasons.”
“I mean my sending off is very odd. The ball goes out for a corner, we lose the ball, Stuart Dudley picks up a ball and throws it towards that that direction and it somehow hit the linesman – I mean he’s never thrown the ball accurately in his life, so he’s never done it on purpose.
“The linesman turned around and assumed that I’ve smashed the ball at him. So he’s told the referee, and the referee sends me off. Duds has told him that that it was him that he’s pursued to go off his linesman.
“It’s just one of those where I’m going to look back at it and laugh because it’s just one of those things that’s completely crazy.
The resilience the players showed, the work they put in, trying to find a way against all that kind of craziness that’s going on around them on the pitch, and to come out with a with a 2-1 win and a critical, vital three points for us is massively pleasing right now.
“We can reflect on this in a positive manner and try and use this as a little bit of a block to step forward into the next 13 games.
“Starting next week with a trip to Merthyr Town which is going to be a tough, tough test and we’re going to need a lot of resilience, but a real positive day on so many different levels.”
After falling into the relegation zone following back-to-back defeats, a spark was certainly needed upon Parkway’s return to Bolitho.
The fuse was ignited early, when White hammered home from the spot four minutes in after a skilful run from the right by Tylor Love-Holmes won the Yellows the penalty.
The flowing attacking football which had been missing from Parkway in recent weeks was shown in abundance within the opening 20 minutes.

Love-Holmes, sat down Chertsey’s left back before forcing a save from the keeper and not long after, White rattled the crossbar with a towering header following a short corner.
Parkway quite easily could have put themselves 3-0 up had they taken their chances in the early stages.
Despite Parkway’s pulsating start, Chertsey hit back completely against the run of play.
After a poor clearance, Conor Lee whipped a ball into the back post from the left-hand side which was headed back across to George Milner-Smith.
The centre back got a touch on the ball forcing Luke McCormick into a sharp save, but the rebound fell to Calum Duffy who hit home the equaliser in the 21st minute.
Parkway’s immediate attempts to retake the lead were thwarted by a fine save from Joshua Strizovic.
Quick reflexes saw the keeper palm Callum Hall’s left footed shot onto and off of the crossbar from close range to keep the score at 1-1.

The second half saw the drama begin again.
A razor-sharp exit from the blocks in the second half should have seen the Curfews take the lead. Oliver McCoy should have had the away side ahead but completely missed the ball on the six-yard box.
The ball fell out to Omar Rowe on the right wing who clipped a curling cross into the back stick which despite the frantic goal line scramble which ensued, failed to find the net.
Chertsey were then given a golden opportunity in the 62nd minute when McCoy was brought down in the box and the referee pointed to the spot.
However it was Luke McCormick who came out the hero as he got down low to his right to push McCoy’s penalty wide.
The match could have gone either way from that point with both sides pushing for the winner.

Despite McPhee’s sending off in the 80th minute, it was Parkway who had the last laugh.
Having suffered so many late heartbreaks across the season, it was the Yellow’s turn to deal the hammer blow in the form of Love-Holmes who smashed home the winner in the 91st minute causing an eruption of joy at Bolitho.
The win see’s Parkway move up into 17th in the table, level on points with Chertsey and Winchester City, with a tough away trip to league leaders Merthyr Town looming next Saturday.
