Beardmore Header Seals Crucial Points for Parkway
Parkway v Yate Town | Match ReportEncouraged by Tuesday evening’s important victory over Wimborne Town, Plymouth Parkway returned to the Theatre of Trees looking to build momentum in another crucial basement battle as Yate Town made the trip to PL5.
There had been plenty of activity around the squad during the week. Supporters had already welcomed back forward Reece Thomson, and further encouragement arrived on the eve of the fixture with three additions confirmed. Toby Down and Mitch Beardmore both returned for second spells in yellow, while Plymouth Argyle forward Joe Hatch joined the club until the end of the season.
Stuart Dudley made four changes to the side that defeated Wimborne. Down and Hatch were handed immediate starts, Taylor Scarff returned from injury, and Tylor Love-Holmes was also recalled. Jenson Ireland and Carlo Garside dropped to the bench alongside Beardmore.

After the torrential rain that defined Tuesday’s win, Saturday began with sunshine before the weather quickly turned again just before kick-off. The conditions would shape the opening half.
The contest quickly developed into a battle rather than a flowing game of football. Parkway saw more of the ball during the early exchanges, with Ryan Brett attempting to keep play moving from midfield, but Yate held a disciplined shape and were content to frustrate.
Parkway’s task was made harder by a double setback as both Love-Holmes and debutant Hatch were forced off with injuries during the half, disrupting Dudley’s plans and limiting the hosts’ attacking options.
Despite Parkway’s greater share of possession, neither side managed to fashion a clear-cut opportunity. With both teams occupying the wrong end of the table, the contest became increasingly scrappy as the rain returned and the surface began to dictate play.
The most striking moment of the half arrived away from the action itself, as a double rainbow briefly appeared above Bolitho Park — a splash of colour on an afternoon where clear chances were few and far between.
At the break, the contest remained scoreless.
The restart brought renewed urgency from the hosts. Thomson began to influence the game more from his role behind Rocky Neal and Beardmore, and it was the returning striker who slipped a clever pass through for Neal, whose effort was saved. Neal soon fashioned another opportunity for himself but fired wide.
Yate continued to threaten on the break with captain Joe Guest working tirelessly to keep the visitors organised, but Parkway increasingly found joy down the left with Callum Hall and Mikey Williams combining well.
With the pitch growing heavier as the rain returned, the contest looked destined for another tense finish until Parkway found the moment they needed.
On 80 minutes, a looping ball into the area from the left dropped invitingly and Beardmore, the smallest player on the pitch, rose highest to head home and send the Bolitho crowd into celebration.
With the lead secured, Parkway remained composed rather than retreating. Yate continued to apply pressure through set pieces and late attacks, but the hosts managed the closing stages well.
Toby Down, making his second debut for the club, produced an assured display at the back as Parkway held firm to secure another vital three points.
The challenges keep coming. Weather permitting, Parkway return to Bolitho Park on Tuesday evening when promotion-chasing Chertsey Town visit the Theatre of Trees.
