There was one change to the side beaten by Hungerford Town, with Callum Hall replacing the suspended Shane White. Rio Garside captained the side.

Backed by a healthy travelling support, Parkway were involved in an attritional opening period. Free-kicks and corners dominated the first half, with little rhythm developing. Taunton looked the more likely to break the deadlock and Owen Brain twice went close inside the opening quarter of an hour, first looping an effort over Frankie Phillips before dragging another wide.

Parkway worked hard without creating clear openings. Hall, returning in midfield, showed energy despite an early booking, while the Garside brothers were largely occupied with defensive duties as Taunton controlled territory. A Parkway effort found the net during one attacking move but was ruled out after the referee had already awarded a free-kick.

The hosts continued to carry the greater threat and Dylan Jones forced Phillips into a full-stretch save from distance shortly before the break as the sides went in level.

The pattern changed little after the restart, though Taunton gradually pushed higher up the pitch. The breakthrough came on 68 minutes when Ollie Chamberlin found space and struck from range, his effort flying beyond Phillips.

The home side quickly added a second. Jayden Nielsen tried his luck from distance and this time Phillips was beaten again, leaving Parkway with too much to do.

Parkway continued to compete but did not register a clear opportunity until the closing stages as Taunton saw the game out.

Parkway remain second from bottom and now face a crucial spell with three home fixtures ahead, knowing the need to start putting back-to-back wins together in front of their own supporters if they are to pull themselves back into the conversation of climbing out of the relegation zone.

Manager Stuart Dudley also hinted this week that new player announcements could arrive ahead of Tuesday evening’s visit of Wimborne, something that may prove a timely boost as Parkway prepare for a significant run of games at Bolitho Park.
