Parkway forced a corner in the 1st minute which was cleared with Bracknell immediately braking away with Adam Parkes gathering the early cross.

The game was being played at a lively pace with Bracknell forcing a couple of corners and Callum Rose winning important headers to clear. Bracknell took the lead on 7 minutes after a break wide on the left found Haydon Vaughan in the clear with his outrageous angled cross cum shot from distance flying  over a startled Parkes into the top corner. Luck or judgement? Only Vaughan will know.

This seemed to rock Parkway but inspire Bracknell who began to dominate in all areas moving the ball at pace and finding space in wide areas with Parkway struggling to gain or retain any decent possession. Despite competing and defending well, Parkway were unable to create any forward momentum or scoring opportunities with the hosts remaining in control and they doubled their lead on 25 minutes.

Neat link up play wide on the left between Joe Grant and Vaughan forced Mikey Williams to head behind for a corner on the right with Vaughan’s well driven accurate delivery finding the unmarked Grant who powered home a header from around 8 yards.

Bracknell continued to dominate midfield with their sharp, slick passing and on 28 minutes the dangerous Vaughan fizzed in a cross from the left with no one able to get a final touch. Tom Jackson then fired a free kick narrowly over as the hosts continued to threaten.

On 31 minutes Parkway made an early double substitution with White and Dylan Jones replacing Alex Cairo and Jack Crago and switching to a 4 4 2 formation to match the hosts. The change of shape brought Parkway back into the game but they were still unable to unsettle or penetrate the hosts defence with Michael Eacott dealing easily with Rose’s shot on 33 minutes, Parkway’s first effort on target.

Parkway continued to be outfought in midfield often conceding possession too easily and on 36 minutes Magnus Abisogun showed good control to create space for himself with his shot from around 12 yards being well saved by Parkes.

Parkway began to create more going forward and on 39 minutes an attack along the left saw Williams link well with Hall with the latter’s cross cleared away. Parkway thought they had pulled a goal back on 42 minutes with Halls heading home at the far post from a free kick on the left only to be denied by a tight offside decision.

Tom Purrington then headed over a cross from the left from around 12 yards after good work on the left between Lane and Jones. In the 3 minutes of added time Parkway ended the half well with Bracknell content to absorb any pressure and protect their 2 goal cushion.

A chastening half for Parkway with Bracknell the far superior side and deserving of their lead with Parkway, although generally competing well, unable to match the intensity or quality of the hosts.

Parkway made their final change at half time with Garside replacing Hall. Bracknell were quickly into their stride looking to stretch the Parkway back line with Vaughan continuing to cause problems along the left.

On 55 minutes a weaving run into the penalty area saw Jordan Espirit go down under a challenge with the referee rightly waving play on. On 57 minutes Parkes came to the rescue with a fine close range save after more good build up play from the hosts.

Parkway were able to break away occasionally and on 60 minutes a cross from the left by Lane lacked accuracy going behind for a goal kick. Bracknell continued to press in midfield not allowing Parkway anytime on the ball with their build up too slow and ponderous. A Parkway free kick from wide on the right on 63 minutes again lacked accuracy allowing Bracknell to clear easily. Parkway continued to work hard in their attempt to create forward momentum with Bracknell still content to absorb pressure, protect their lead and play on the counter.

On 65 minutes Parkway created their first real opportunity with Williams, now playing in a more forward role, linking well with Wright and hitting the target from around 18 yards forcing Eacott to tip over at full stretch. Rose then saw his shot deflected for a corner which was cleared and allowed Bracknell to break away with Parkes denying Espirit with a point blank range save.

On 69 minutes Abisogun raced clear unchallenged on the right firing wildly over from around 30 yards. Bracknell made their first change on 70 minutes with Espirit being replaced by Great Evans.

Parkway then enjoyed a short spell in possession without unduly testing the Bracknell defence who remained content to absorb any pressure and play on the break exploiting the space beyond the Parkway midfield.

Parkway suffered a blow on 75 minutes with Lane forced to leave the field with a nasty looking injury and, having used all their substitutes, had to play the remainder of the game with 10 men. Bracknell continued to look dangerous with every attack forcing Parkway to defend in numbers and at times desperately.

On 77 minutes Grant fired well over when well placed shortly before Abisogun was replaced by Adam Mekki. Grant then hooked an effort just wide after more good play along the left with the Parkway defence coming under increasing and sustained pressure.

The hosts made their final change on 80 minutes with debutant and recently signed Michael Dada replacing the impressive Grant. Jackson then became the first player to be booked as Bracknell continued to press with shots from firstly Ralph Vigrass and then Mekki fortunately for Parkway failing to hit the target.

On 86 minutes Parkes made another superb close range save from Mekki as the Parkway goal bore a charmed life. In the first of 5 minutes of added time a rare Parkway break saw Garside’s free kick from around 25 yards comfortably saved before the final action in the final minute saw yet another excellent save by Parkes keep the score line respectable.

A gritty Parkway performance full of endeavour and hard work but they were ultimately beaten by a superior side displaying quality from front to back and clearly with aspirations to progress higher.

On the day arguably the best side Parkway have faced this season so no real complaints on the outcome. Solid defending and 4 crucial saves by Parkes in the second half prevented a bigger defeat. Other results on the day sees Parkway remain in 20th place and now 6 points adrift of safety and make no mistake, clearly in a relegation battle.

That relentless battle continues on Tuesday when bottom club Didcot Town visit Bolitho Park followed by a visit to Sholing on Easter Saturday with Poole Town the visitors to Bolitho Park on Easter Monday.
