Parkway return home after long spell on the road

Parkway vs Basingstoke Town | Match Preview

By Alex Haynes

After almost a month, Plymouth Parkway are finally back on home soil for a match against Basingstoke Town. The Yellows have been busy on the road in both league and cup and will be excited at the prospect of football returning to Bolitho.

It has been a mixed bag for Parkway since the brilliant 5-0 win over Dorchester Town back in September. The lads exited the FA Trophy at the hands of AFC Totton but picked up two valuable league points after drawing against Winchester City and Merthyr Town.

The 1-1 draw at Merthyr is especially encouraging considering the Martyrs currently sit in second place, one point from top, and have only lost 2 matches all season. The result gives the squad something to build on.

Basingstoke are sixth, but also have an inconsistent record. They have played more games than anyone else in the league, winning six, losing six and drawing twice. They are coming into this fixture after a 4-0 defeat to Bracknell Town, and this will give Parkway belief that they can get a result against the ‘Stoke. If they can, they will increase their unbeaten run to four games which will hopefully lift us out of the drop zone.

Another unpredictable match awaits us on Saturday. This will be our first fixture against Basingstoke and one that we can win. The momentum shift in the league is a positive that we can take into this game, and if we can turn the draws into wins, the table will look very different come the end of the year.
