Parkway prepare for important away day outing

Swindon Supermarine vs Parkway | Match Preview

By Mike Parrish

After experiencing further frustration last weekend, Parkway’s players are now prepared to board the coach for a trip to Swindon Supermarine, who currently sit in 18th place.

Following another washout last weekend, Parkway now occupy the final relegation place but do hold significant games in hand over teams around them. If postponements have been a theme of the season, so has the lack of points picked up against teams around Parkway in the table. The Yellows have picked up points and produced fine performances against teams vying for a promotion push, but picking up points has tapered off against teams around them.

Can they put this right as they travel to the Webbswood on Saturday, with Supermarine sitting one place above Parkway in the table, four points clear but with Parkway having nine games in hand. One thing is clear for all to see: the run-in for Parkway in this season’s campaign will have to be carefully navigated due to the volume of games left to play. With Thursday fixtures now being arranged, the management and squad are now looking to navigate three games a week, which will be a test, both physically and mentally.

The search for three points begins on Saturday. Parkway have picked up one point from nine in their past three games and also failed to find the net during this period. They will look to try and put this right at the Webbswood this weekend, but another difficult away fixture awaits.

After missing out on the playoffs last season by two points, Swindon’s season hasn’t gone according to plan and find themselves caught up in a relegation battle. Last weekend, they found themselves 2-0 up against Tiverton Town heading into the 90th minute, only to walk away from Devon with a point after conceding two late goals. They earned a morale-boosting victory against Hanwell Town prior to the trip to Devon, and their last time out at the Webbswood ended in a 3-1 defeat against Harrow Borough. No doubt they will be out to put that right this weekend.

Last season, Swindon enjoyed a fine 3-0 victory over Parkway at the Webbswood with goals from Harry Williams and a double from Joe Tumelty. The reverse fixture witnessed Ben Seymour grab an 87th-minute winner as Parkway prevailed 2-1.

Following a trip to Swindon on Saturday, Parkway will be back on the road with a midweek trip to the capital to face Hanwell Town on Tuesday, then heading back to Bolitho Park on Thursday to face Merthyr Town before ending with a visit from Hayes and Yeading next weekend. This period alone shows the complexities the squad face, but there will be no hiding away during this busy and crucial period.
