A midweek trip to Hampshire awaits Parkway

Winchester City vs Parkway | Match Preview

By Alex Haynes

It’s another Tuesday night fixture next for Plymouth Parkway as we travel away to Winchester City. If it’s anything like last Tuesday, then we are in for a treat.

Parkway finally got back to winning ways last week by dismantling Dorchester Town at Bolitho. New addition Reece Thomson opened the scoring before a stunning long-range strike from Callum Hall made it two. Jack Crago found the net twice and, in the process, scored his 50th goal for the club. Matt Wright then scored a header to complete the 5-0 rout.

The emphatic victory will hopefully be the beginning of some good form for Parkway, who will undoubtedly be full of confidence going into the match against Winchester. The aim now is to begin the ascent up the extremely competitive league table and away from the drop zone in which we currently sit.

Our opponents for Tuesday evening have won their previous two league games. The Citizens beat Basingstoke Town 2-1 last time around, and before that, defeated high-flying Chesham United by the same scoreline. And last weekend, they put in a fine performance against higher league opposition but bowed out of the FA Cup following a 2-0 defeat.

We are certainly familiar with the Hampshire club. During our 21/22 title winning season, we took four points from the matches against Winchester after a 3-3 draw and a 1-0 win at Bolitho. They followed the Yellows up to the Southern League Premier Division South after winning the playoff final against Bristol Manor Farm. It was one win a piece last season with both sides having success at home.

At this stage, it is hard to predict what will happen in this campaign. Everyone involved with Parkway will be hoping that the brilliant win against Dorchester will give the squad a new lease of life. It is an indication of what we are capable of, but anything can happen in this league. Let’s hope the Yellows can carry that momentum into this fixture and beyond.
