Poole town the final test for Parkway in 2023Poole Town vs Parkway | Match Preview
By Alex Haynes
Plymouth Parkway are back in action four days removed from the drama that boxing day provided. This time they travel to Dorset for an away fixture against Poole Town to close out the year.
Just when it seemed that Parkway were heading for their first defeat in five games on boxing day, Matt Wright headed home deep into stoppage time to salvage a point for the Yellows against Tiverton Town in the Devon derby.
The result means that Parkway have not lost a football match since October. They sit 14th in the league, four points behind Basingstoke Town who have played seven more games. Poor weather conditions meant that the lads only played three matches in November and again in December, so 2024 is set to be a very busy year.
Poole Town are just outside the playoff places in 7th place, and they too have games in hand over the teams above them. The Dolphins have been in fine form of late and are unbeaten in four games with three wins and a draw.
Last season, Parkway comfortably beat Poole 4-0 at Bolitho and one month later, the two sides played out a 0-0 draw at the Black Gold Stadium. Town made it to the playoffs at the end of the campaign but were defeated by eventual winners Truro City in the semi-finals.
Both sides will believe they can claim three points on Saturday due to their current form, ability to score goals and their solid defensive displays so far. Parkway are only twelve points behind their opponents with two games in hand. Expect another exciting, evenly contested match in which Parkway will look to go into the new year with a bang.
