A day out in Somerset

Taunton Town vs Parkway | Match Preview

By Lewis Retallick

Parkway are taking a trip to the Cygnet Health Care Stadium on Saturday to face Taunton, and it’s set to be a good one. The Yellows are following on from a brilliant 3-1 victory over Bracknell Town last week in what was a really good effort from the lads who had to survive with one less player.

The first goal of the game came in the 19th minute from Reece Thomson who got on the end of a cross. We only had to wait another ten minutes for the second goal, as the hosts equalised when Dan Roberts reacted quickest to a ricochet. It was then a long wait until another goal but as the clock struck the 60th minute, Parkway made it 2-1 through Liam Oakes with a strike off the post. Seven minutes later the match became more comfortable for the lads as Tylor Love-Holmes made it 3-1 with a quality header.

Captain Shane White did unfortunately see a red card directed his way after picking up his second yellow and leaving the squad a man down – but the team held firm, and the match finished 3-1.

The form for Parkway looks like it could be on the rise as in their last five they have three victories, one draw and one loss, so it is certainly improving a lot. Their two most recent matches both resulted in wins, and it also meant the squad got their first back-to-back wins of the season.

In those five matches they have managed to score ten goals, so technically two goals a game – not bad at all. There is still some room for improvement in terms of defending though as they have conceded six.

Taunton are in interesting form as their last five has resulted in three draws and two wins, with all of those draws coming in their most recent games – so they seem to be struggling to grab all three points at the minute. Compared to Plymouth, these lot have only managed to score six in the last five, but their defence has been putting in some fantastic performances as they have only conceded two.

It will be tough to penetrate their defence in this one, but the lads won’t let that stop them from giving it a good go.
