Play the match, not the occasion

Parkway vs Winchester City | Match Preview

By Mike Parrish

Plymouth Parkway suffered their fifth consecutive league defeat on Tuesday evening, falling 2-0 to play-off contenders AFC Totton. However, there will be no time to dwell on the situation as the Yellows look ahead to a night out at Home Park and another significant test against Winchester City.

This fixture marks Parkway’s return to the city since January 30, when they endured the first of their five consecutive defeats, losing 1-0 to Beaconsfield Town. Despite some promising performances during this run, Parkway finds themselves needing to convert these performances into points as the season enters its final stages.

A morale boost for everyone at the club is the opportunity to play in the city on Thursday evening, with Plymouth Argyle generously offering the use of Home Park while Parkway’s ground-staff and volunteers tirelessly work to ensure Parkway’s long-awaited return to Bolitho Park.

This fixture not only lifts spirits for the Yellows but also offers added incentive for Winchester City, who will benefit from the excellent facilities of Home Park. Craig Davis’ side currently sits 10th in the table after playing 31 games and accumulating 46 points. Davis previously led Winchester to play-off glory in 2022 and a 16th-place finish in the Southern Premier South last season.

Over the years, Parkway and Winchester have developed a healthy rivalry, making this fixture eagerly anticipated by both sets of fans. Winchester will arrive in Plymouth in good form, unbeaten in four games, and tasting victory in their last two fixtures against Harrow Borough and Poole Town.

This will be Parkway’s second fixture of a busy week, concluding with a trip to play-off contenders Bracknell Town on Saturday.

Thursday night will see Home Park take center stage as Parkway prepares to face Winchester City at the iconic Theatre of Greens. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:45 pm, with the Mayflower Stand being the sole stand open for spectators, opening from 6:45 pm onwards. The bar and food outlets will be operational, and as a gesture of appreciation, Argyle Season ticket holders can gain entry for just £5.
