Parkway vs Merthyr Town

Parkway return home for match day 4

By Rob Kershaw

After two cruel away defeats, Parkway are back at Bolitho this weekend to face off against Merthyr Town, as they seek their first win of the campaign.

The Martyrs had a tricky time of it last campaign and would be relegated into Southern League Division One South but were reprieved during the off season after Walton Casuals stepped away from the league.

However, Saturday’s visitors have started the current campaign in better form, beating Tiverton 2-0 on Tuesday night after they themselves suffered harsh losses at the hands of Gosport and Bracknell.

Both sides are finding their feet in the league at the moment, Parkway doing so as newcomers, but their efforts thus far have only yielded a point, inspired by a late Ben Seymour double against Chesham.

Rio Garside’s strike at Beaconsfield was cancelled out as the home side scored three second half goals to take the points, and our last encounter was a similar story.

Jared Lewington headed the Yellows in front in the opening 45 minutes away at Dorchester, but the hosts found their rhythm in the second half to record victory.

Manager Lee Hobbs took “so many positives” from a game that the boys “didn’t deserve to lose at all,” but he appreciated that even the smallest of mistakes can and will be punished in such a competitive division.

Mistakes at Bolitho were also punished early doors by Chesham, but the lads picked up the pieces with the help of the outstanding Parkway faithful to collect a point from the opening day.

That atmosphere will be needed again on Saturday as Parkway look to capture that first win of the new campaign and set the ball rolling in 2022-23.
