The game got off to a brisk start with the well organised visitors quickly into their stride with Tony Lee firing well over on 6 minutes. Parkway responded by forcing a corner in the 8th minute which was comfortably dealt with by the Totton defence.

Looking strong and energetic all over the pitch the visitors took the lead in the 13th minute. A long ball wide to the left saw the pacey Ethan Taylor outstrip his marker and deliver a dangerous cross to the far post where Juan Luque glided in unmarked to tuck home at close range from a tight angle. Totton gradually began to dominate in midfield looking sharp and comfortable in possession with Parkway unable to gain or retain any meaningful possession and being forced into errors by the visitors pressing game. On 17 minutes a Totton break saw Luque pick out Lee whose first time cross drifted out of play.

Totton continued to look threatening with Parkway being forced to defend well but with Adam Parkes rarely called into action. On 20 minutes Parkway created their first scoring opportunity with a break along the right seeing Lowry’s deep cross finding Hall coming in at the far post with his close range effort from a tight going into the side netting.

Totton responded on 22 minutes with Taylor firing just over after good build up play between Lee and Leon Maloney. Parkway continued to compete well without really creating much and on 24 minutes Dylan Jones showed good skill on the right with his cross to the near post being diverted behind for a corner which was easily defended. Totton remained in control generally dominating possession with Parkway continuing to compete well but unable to create or gain any forward progress and it was the visitors who doubled their lead on 32 minutes. Once again Parkway were unable to stop a cross from a wide area with Luque’s cross into the 18 yard box causing a defensive scramble with Leon Maloney eventually tucking away a shot on the turn from around 10 yards.

Totton remained in total control and were dominant from front to back with Maloney almost getting his 2nd on 38 minutes flashing his drive narrowly wide of the right hand post. Benny Read then made a strong pacey run from deep with his cross to the near post being knocked behind for another Totton corner this time well defended by Parkway.

Totton continued to look strong and composed in possession with Parkway only occasionally able to get forward and on 41 minutes they won a free kick wide on the left with the delivery lacking quality allowing the Josh Gould in the visitor’s goal a comfortable catch.

A chastening half for Parkway who although competing well and working hard were clearly 2nd best to a well drilled, well organised Totton who were good value for their 2 goal lead.

Parkway made 2 changes at the break with Crago and Rose replacing White and Garside and altering their formation and shape in their attempt to get back into the game

The 2nd half started pretty much the same as the 1st had finished with the visitors controlling the tempo of proceedings and Parkway working hard to stay in the game. On 48 minutes a long ball from Gould reached Taylor whose lobbed effort floated narrowly over the bar.

On 50 minutes Totton forced a couple of corners putting the Parkway defence under pressure but were unable to get anything on target. On 53 minutes Luque’s speculative effort from around 35 yards flew just over with Parkway then creating a short period of pressure of their own forcing a couple or corners with Adam Tomasso doing well to block a close range Parkway shot after a mix up in the 6 yard area.

Play continued to be competitive in the midfield area with Lowry picking up a caution on 55 minutes after a foul just inside the Parkway had halted a Totton break. However the visitors were not to be denied and went further ahead on 57 minutes. A neat passage of play along the right resulted in Tomasso’s powerful strike from the edge of the 18 yard area being unluckily diverted into the roof of the net by Rose on the line in his desperate effort to prevent the ball finding the back of the net.

Parkway replaced Tom Purrington with Cameron Sangster on the hour as Totton continued in the ascendancy and on 62 minutes Parkes did well to spread himself to save from Maloney whose delicate chip from the recycled ball was headed off the line and cleared.

Totton made their 1st change on 69 minutes with Perri Landolo replacing Maloney. With Totton now slowing the tempo of the game and happy to absorb pressure, this allowed Parkway to have more possession and get forward more momentum. On 71 minutes good work on the right saw Wright link with Williams who released Jones whose shot was blocked by solid Totton defending with Gould remaining untested other than gathering a couple of wayward crosses into the 18 yard area.

Parkway continued to press and on 77 minutes a strong run by Jones down he left saw his cross pick out Crago who was crowded out by his marker forcing his shot narrowly wide.

Parkway were now seeing much more of the ball with the Totton defence looking calm and composed and dealing comfortably with the attacking threat. On 78 minutes Parkway earned a free kick some 40 yards out with a Totton player seeing yellow for the challenge with Rose heading narrowly wide from the kick.

Luke Bennett replaced Read on 79 minutes for Totton as Parkway continued to push forward but were unable to penetrate the visitors solid defensive wall. On 80 minutes Rose made a strong unchallenged run from deep in his own half and squared the ball to Hall who created space on the edge of the 18 yard area before shooting narrowly wide of the right hand post. Totton continued to defend deep allowing Parkway more time in possession but they remained unable provide the necessary quality in the final third despite having a couple of optimistic shouts for penalties waved away.

Totton made their final change on 84 minutes with Matt Burrows replacing Luque as they looked to manage the game out. Parkway then forced a corner with Sangster linking well with Williams on the left with Gould again commanding his area to easily gather the ball. Parkway continued to work hard until the end and did not give up but Totton remained comfortable and in control to the end.

The final action in stoppage time resulted in an untidy finish to the game with a multi player fracas in the bottom corner close to the Parkway byeline with a couple of yellow cards brandished as a result with the referee calling time shortly after.

A comprehensive, deserved win for a well resourced, well supported Totton who were clearly the superior side in all departments and arguably one of if not the most accomplished all round sides seen at Bolitho Park this season.

The result sees them move up a place to 2nd and on tonight’s evidence they are more than capable of realising their ambitions of promotion to the National League. To their credit, despite their punishing schedule and their undoubtedly tired bodies and minds and possibly with an eye on Wednesday, Parkway competed and battled well throughout but have to accept they were outclassed on the night and beaten by the better side and they remain in the 3rd relegation place.

Attention now turns to Wednesday with Hayes and Yeading the visitors. They are just 1 point and 1 place ahead of Parkway in a must win game for both sides if either are to stand any chance of avoiding the drop.

On Saturday in their final match of the season Parkway visit Beaconsfield Town who are currently 3 points and 3 places ahead of Parkway and depending on the outcome on Wednesday the result could well decide which of the 2 stays up or doesn’t  The final 2 relegation places also includes the outcome of 3 other games on Saturday involving 4 other clubs in the bottom 8.
