The game got off to a cagey start with both sides looking to make their mark.

The first attempt of the game came on 6 minutes with Declan Rose seeing his volley comfortably gathered by Harrison Lee in the Parkway goal. Parkway almost took the lead on 11 minutes after a strong run from the back by Williams released Callum Hall whose shot to the near post was pushed behind by Luke Cairney in the home goal for a corner which was easily dealt with by the Poole defence.

With play now settling into a pattern and the hosts moving the ball around well, on 13 minutes Toby Down did well to block an effort from Toby Holmes. Ryan Lane then won possession in the Poole half and broke forward along the left with his angled drive being blocked and cleared.

Play continued at a high tempo with the hosts looking to create openings but the Parkway defence held firm looking to retain possession and play out from the back when possible. On 19 minutes Parkway conceded possession in midfield allowing Marcus Daws to break clear along the left with his cross being cleared off the line by a composed and assured Williams. Poole continued on the front foot switching play and looking to exploit both flanks with Parkway working hard in midfield to break up play denying the hosts any clear chances.

Bath was booked for dissent on 20 minutes with Poole being awarded a free kick midway in the Parkway half which was cleared away. Poole continued their patient build up play but were still unable to create any clear chances with Austen Booth, Down and Williams working hard and looking comfortable in the Parkway back line.

A Poole shot from distance on 26 minutes was easily saved by Lee whose long clearance to the right found Harrison King whose low cross just evaded Ben Seymour with Cairney smothering the loose ball.

The game continued with intensity with Poole dominating possession but Parkway remaining competitive in midfield with Dan Rooney, Hall and Billington working hard to break up play and contest and win second balls. A Poole free kick on 32 minutes saw Lee do well to rise high and punch clear whilst under pressure from a Poole attacker. Lee then did well to gather a dangerous cross from Jake Andrews at the second attempt as the hosts continued to threaten. Booth then made a strong run forward along the right but unfortunately his final ball lacked direction.

A period of Parkway pressure then saw Seymour go clear along the right with his cross being deflected behind for a corner. Parkway continued to press and control a period of play with Williams prominent and forcing a corner from which Down headed narrowly over for their best chance of the game. Parkway continued to push forward with Seymour adjudged just offside as he looked to go clear chasing a long through ball. Approaching half time Seymour pulled up and rather than risk him continuing, was replaced by Crago in the 44th minute.

A fairly even half of few clear chances with both defences remaining on top with Poole dominating the early stages but Parkway working hard, competing well and having the better of the latter stages.

Andrews was replaced by Luke Holmes at half time for the hosts and they started the second half much the sharper with Cameron Murray catching the eye in midfield with his strong running and incisive passing.

On 53 minutes a Parkway counter attack saw Crago make a strong run from deep in his own half with his shot from around 18 yards being well blocked. Poole responded and should have taken the lead on 54 minutes.

Parkway conceded possession in midfield creating a 3 on 2 situation with Daws releasing Toby Holmes who blasted well over when well placed. Poole continued to threaten and on 55 minutes a break along the right saw Daws meet a dangerous cross with his shot on the run failing to hit the target.

On 58 minutes Garside replaced Billington who had worked hard in midfield and been quietly efficient on his debut. Parkway continued to come under pressure conceding a couple of corners but continued to defend solidly frustrating the hosts who despite their patient build up play remained unable to create too many clear chances.

Parkway continued to play on the counter and on 63 minutes Crago did well to win possession but lacked support when clear with the attack coming to nothing with Cairney remaining untested. On 65 minutes a fine covering block tackle by Down in the 18 yard area denied the hosts a scoring opportunity as they continued to apply pressure in the final third.

On 66 minutes Daniel Adu-Adjei replaced Toby Holmes for Poole with Callum Rose replacing Williams who was forced off with an injury. Poole continued in the ascendancy with Parkway forced to defend in numbers with King picking up a yellow card for a foul on 68 minutes. Luke Holmes then saw yellow for the hosts as play continued at a frantic pace as they continued to search for an opening.

On 74 minutes a rare Parkway counter attack saw them win a corner on the right from which Booth at the far post played the ball back into the danger area with Cairney gathering the loose ball.

Poole continued to threaten looking to make the breakthrough and on 76 minutes Declan Rose pushed a shot just wide with Callum Rose bravely clearing another shot off the line shortly after.

The Parkway goal continued to bear a charmed life and on 78 minutes they had a let off when Adu-Adjei went clear and rounded Lee with his angled drive going agonisingly wide. Parkway continued to absorb pressure and defend desperately but were able to launch the occasional counter attack.

From one such break on 81 minutes, with Poole unsuccessfully appealing for offside, Crago broke clear only to be wrestled to the ground around 25 yards out. After protest and counter protest, Will Spetch received a yellow card and Garside wasted the free kick by firing wildly over the bar.

Entering the final stages Poole continued to push forward with a cross being headed over on 87 minutes as Parkway’s defence remained firm. Lee continued to confidently command his area dealing well with a series of high crosses and thereby relieving pressure on his overworked defence.

Parkway had one last opportunity and broke forward on 88 minutes with Crago cutting in from the left but unable to get his shot away with Garside also being crowded out as he attempted to work an opening from around 25 yards out.

Entering the 4 added minutes, Poole replaced Declan Rose with George Cowmeadow as they continued to press with Parkway managing to see the game out without any further alarms.

A hard earned and well deserved point for Parkway against a determined, well organised Poole side who despite their dominance of possession, especially in the second half, were unable to convert any of the few chances they created. Showing good team spirit, battling qualities and togetherness and despite losing 2 key players to injury, Parkway worked hard throughout and would be the happier of the 2 sides. The result sees Parkway take 4 points out of 6 against Poole keeping 2 clean sheets into the bargain and climb a place to 12th in the table on goal difference.

Parkway now embark on 8 games in March, 5 at home and 3 away, starting on Saturday with their longest away day of the season, a 476 mile round trip to 20th placed Hendon looking to extend their latest unbeaten run to 4 games.
