Parkway welcome promtion chasing Salisbury to Bolitho Park

Parkway vs Salisbury | Match Preview

By Mike Parrish

In a season still littered with postponements, Parkway’s campaign has been one of frustration and at times, failure to launch.

In amongst the frustration, and despite a tricky start to their second season Southern Premier League South, the Yellows have also shown their pedigree in the division. A nine-game unbeaten run proved that when Parkway get going, they are difficult to stop. But with postponements, momentum has been lost, and their nine-game streak was ended at home to Beaconsfield Town on the 30th January, and the last time Parkway played a home game.

Since then, only two further games have been played, both on 3G surfaces. A creditable point earned with 10-men away to Dorchester Town and an outing last weekend against Basingstoke ended in a 1-0 defeat. So, can the Yellows get back to winning ways on the weekend? The first obstacle will again be the weather, with a Yellow weather warning issued for the region by the MET office that kicks in early Friday morning, and the next obstacle will be overcoming promotion chasing Salisbury.

Former Bristol City Under 23 coach Brian Dutton has enjoyed a good start to life at the Ray Mac. After being appointed midway through last season, he steered the whites to a 15th-placed finish and now his new look side sit second in the table, 12 points behind runaway leaders Chesham United.

The hunt for the play-off places looks set to go down to the wire with a handful of teams vying for a spot. Salisbury will no doubt be there or thereabouts but despite a game of the season contender against Poole Town that saw them grab a dramatic late winner in a 5-4 win, their form has dipped with 5 points yielded from a possible 12.

The two-sides met in late October and despite Callum Hall scoring for the second consecutive season at the Ray Mac, goals from Daniel Fitchett & Joshua Hedges provided the home side all three points.

The attention of this stop start season now returns to Bolitho and a fixture that Parkway fans will relish. The Yellows have been at their peak against the divisions top sides this season, can they continue that trend this Saturday?
