Parkway back at it as Basingstoke Town awaits

Basingstoke Town vs Parkway | Match Preview

By Mike Parrish

“It may have been a difficult period of late for Parkway, with games continuing to be postponed, but the spirit in the squad remains strong and ready for the challenge that awaits. It may be a difficult schedule to navigate, with countless miles still to travel and hurdles to overcome, but the board, management, and squad will tackle each obstacle one game at a time.

It’s been a difficult time for the media side of the club to continue producing assets for games, only to have them postponed, but the back-catalogue of programmes, graphics, previews, and the yet-to-be-written match reports will soon be produced at a rapid rate.

At last, we finally look ahead to a Saturday fixture against Basingstoke, in a match that will go ahead thanks to Winklebury Stadium being a 3G surface, and this is where the first challenge of a busy run-in starts. The two sides met at Bolitho Park in late October and played out a 1-1 draw in front of a crowd of 426. Dan Brownlie’s men sit in 11th place in the table and are in good form, having won four of their last five fixtures, the only blemish being a 2-0 home defeat to Winchester City.

Parkway, currently occupying 18th place in the table, are 9 points behind their opponents on Saturday, with an incredible 9 games in hand over Brownlie’s men.

As the ides of March draw closer, ‘games in hand’ might not be the right turn of phrase, more like a mountain of games to catch up on, but with the squad ticking over with training sessions and not having kicked a ball in anger during February, there will no doubt be a sense of enjoyment to finally get a competitive game of football under their belt.

It will be good for all involved on Saturday to board the coach, for fans to get behind their beloved Yellows, for social feeds to be populated on a Saturday afternoon, and for the management and team to navigate what will no doubt be a tricky afternoon.
