Pack the Park for the Toon Test

Parkway v Hanwell Town | Match Preview

By Mike Parrish

“Pack the Park” has been the message ringing around Bolitho following Parkway’s six-goal thriller against Havant & Waterlooville, which ended in a 3-3 draw, and attention now turns firmly to Saturday and the visit of Hanwell Town.

Although not mathematically safe, it would take a dramatic swing of results to pull Parkway back into the relegation places on the final day. With just one point required to secure their status, interim manager Stuart Dudley has urged the Plymouth public to turn out in force as his side prepare for another stern examination against one of their bogey teams.

If ever there was a time to claim a first league victory over the Toon, this weekend presents the opportunity. The sides have met seven times previously, with Hanwell enjoying the upper hand, winning six of those encounters and dropping only two points across that run.

Hanwell currently sit 13th in the table, one place below Parkway and two points behind, although they will play their game in hand against Farnham Town on Thursday evening, meaning the standings could look different ahead of Saturday’s meeting.

Despite their strong record against Parkway, recent form has been mixed. They have recorded just one win from their last five league outings, although that victory was an emphatic 4-0 success over struggling Weymouth last weekend. Away from home this season, Hanwell have found life difficult, suffering 12 defeats with five wins and three draws on their travels.

They also arrive with the confidence of knowing they came from behind to defeat Parkway earlier in the campaign. On a difficult night in West London, Mikey Williams and Tylor Love-Holmes had put Parkway two goals to the good before a second-half turnaround saw Luke Cook strike a dramatic late winner at the Powerday Stadium.

But much has changed since that evening. Dudley and assistant Lee Peacock have overseen a strong turnaround in results, particularly at Bolitho Park, where Parkway have made the Theatre of Trees a difficult destination for visiting sides.

Since taking charge, Dudley has dropped just two points at home across six fixtures, and he will be hoping supporters again turn out in numbers to provide the backing needed to get his side over the line.

Team news also offers encouragement. Rocky Neal and Mikey Williams both returned to action last weekend and are expected to be available for selection. Club captain Shane White continues his recovery from injury and will hope to be included, while loanee Mitch Beardmore edges closer to full fitness after an impressive start to his return before injury halted his progress.

There are still stories to be written before the final whistle falls on the season, and Saturday offers another chapter.

With one final home fixture remaining, the message from within Bolitho is clear,  the club will once again call on the Plymouth public to get behind their local non-league side and help drive Parkway towards the finish line before next weekend’s final trip to Gosport Borough.
