Parkway's difficult run continues

Havant & Waterlooville vs Parkway | Match Report

Plymouth Parkway fell to their third successive defeat in all competitions, losing 1-0 away at Havant & Waterlooville thanks to a close-range strike from Ryan Seager.

Parkway were with 10 men for the majority of the game after Ryan Brett was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Seager in the penalty area.

Despite Mack Allan making a brilliant save to deny Seager, it wasn’t enough to earn Parkway a sneaky point.

The away side started the match with vigour, forcing Jack Veale to clear an early effort off of the line from Ethan Giwa-Mcneil five minutes in. The Havant winger was found by a cut-back from Seager 12 yards out and although his shot had beaten Allan, Veal was there to clear the danger.

Parkway’s first and only real chance of the game came minutes later as Carlo Garside set his brother Rio up for a shot outside the box, but his curling effort went straight into the hands of Benjamin Dudzinski.

Giwa-Mcneil very nearly caught Parkway napping and should have put his side ahead in the 8th minute. The winger closed down Allan quickly, robbing him of possession, but sent his left footed effort wide of the post with the goal gaping.

Parkway’s ropey start continued as Mitchell Aston smashed a thunderous strike off of the crossbar from distance after a quarter of an hour. His first time effort fizzed through the crowded box and smashed off the crossbar, and it been on target, Allan would have had no chance whatsoever.

10 minutes from half-time, Parkway’s defence was challenged once more.

Seager got the better of Brett in the box and went down after the defender’s recovery challenge, yet despite what seemed like a valid attempted to get the ball, referee Patrick Nixon pointed to the spot and brandished the red card.

Havant’s number 9 stepped up but saw his effort repelled thanks to a fantastic save from Allan – similar to that of Jordan Pickford’s save in the World Cup shoot-out against Switzerland.

Seager then went on to hit the bar a minute later from close distance, allowing Parkway to survive the first half.

Unfortunately for The Yellows, the chances kept coming for Havant and the hosts eventually found their breakthrough.

Winger Nana Owusu, who had been a present threat down the left wing, slid the ball across the six-yard box for Seager to tap home into a near open net to give The Hawks a deserved lead 62 minutes in.

Some valiant defending from Parkway, including a fantastic goal-line block from Max Edgecombe and two more sensational stops from Allan, ensured that Havant’s lead remained at 1-0 as the home side claimed all three points.

The loss sees Parkway remain in the relegation zone in 20th place ahead of Tuesday’s fixture with rock bottom Dorchester Town.
