Speaking after the game, Chris McPhee said: “It’s a disappointing result for sure, and parts of that second half of performance

“Looking back the first half, I felt but we were in good control, I felt that we had lots of possession, some purposeful possession, we opened them up a few times, and there were moments where we could have done a little bit better from some of the chances we created.

“We had a few little setbacks in terms of personnel with Carlo being unwell and we hope that he’s feeling better over the next couple of days.

“We had an opportunity to experiment with a slightly different shape, slightly different feel, with some different ideas with next season in mind, of how we might have a little bit of an alternative playing style or play in shape.

“Fair play to the players in that first half, being able to take on board the ideas and execute them with some good success.

“We got ourselves in a great position (going in 0-1 up at half time). We felt at half time that it was all going to come down to people being willing to go into that second half and fully commit to their roles and their jobs and to expect a little bit more from the opposition.

“The goal that they scored to equalise was one of those worldie hits that you’ve got to tip your cap towards and say that’s one hell of a strike. From that moment, we felt that because of the type of injuries we were a little bit out of sorts, and too many players playing in positions that weren’t familiar to them.

“We went back to our normal shape, and there were moments for quality from them, and tiny flashes from us, and they score kind of in the closing stages to derail us a little bit. It wasn’t nice.”

“It was just one of those games where after a long, hard fought season, the boys have put a hell of a shift in this over the last two or three months, getting us in a position where we are safe, and that takes a lot out of a group.

“I can’t fault the boys. They’ve been absolutely fantastic in order to get this club into a position where we were safe going into the last three games. I think that’s probably what’s told over the last three games, is that that was catching up with us a little bit.

“We had a relatively thin squad again, but it’s testament to the boys being in a position where going into the last three games, although we’ve lost them, we were in a position where we could afford to lose and still be safe within the group.”

Contrary to recent weeks, Parkway started brightly and had a chance within the opening two minutes.

Defender Shane White curled a ball to the back post for Matt Wright to attack but the striker’s header fell short of the far post and was cleared by a grateful Geordie defence.

Hanwell responded well and could have taken the lead had it not been for a sea of Navy and Yellow in the box.

A freekick in an attacking position was curled into the box and the rebound fell to Carr on the edge of the area who struck a strong effort at goal, but found his shot blocked by Ryan Brett.

The hosts were then gifted a great chance by Alex Rutter who, with a rare mistake, fed the ball directly to Hanwell’s Kamaron English, but the winger sent his strike straight back at Rutter for the keeper to gather.

Just when The Geordies were establishing control, Parkway took the lead. Liam Oakes was at hand at the back stick to knee home White’s looping cross to give his side the lead after 25 minutes.

Again, Hanwell showed their intent, and they came close to an equaliser just minutes later.

English was played into space on the right wing and drove into the box. The forward then attempted to catch Rutter out at his near post but instead drew a corner for his side.

The resulting corner was whipped to the back post, headed into ground and tipped onto the cross bar by Rutter to keep his side ahead.

Despite Rutter’s hard work in the first half, Hanwell drew level in spectacular fashion early in the second half through Carr.

Parkway thought they had cleared their lines after another offensive drive from The Geordies only for the defender to volley a magnificent strike into the top left corner from 25 yards out to make it 1-1 after 62 minutes played.

After hitting the cross bar 10 minutes later following a header from Joseph Waight, Hanwell completed the turnaround.

A low ball was cut back across the penalty spot for Waight to strike, who missed the ball but was spared his blushes by Wilson who sent a brilliant first-time effort curling into the top right corner to seal the win in the 74th minute.
