Parkway welcome new sports therapist Regan Miles
Plymouth Parkway have added to their backroom team as Regan Miles joins the dugout ahead of the new season. Regan is an up-and-coming sports therapist who will take over from Pete White who will be moving into another role within the football club. Following on from the signings of Matt Cusack and Matt Godfree last season, Lee Hobbs adds Regan to his staff after the announcement of Stuart Dudley as the new Goalkeeping coach earlier this month.
Regan, a student of Marine Academy during his early years always had a strong desire for both Sport and Science which led the Plymothian to attend Marjon University. Regan told ppfc: “Sports Therapy & rehabilitation has always been something I’ve admired. I studied Sports Therapy at Plymouth Marjon University and graduated in 2020. There were several reasons for wanting to pursue a career in sports therapy; From school, I always wanted to do something that incorporated my love for sport and human anatomy. I also decided on the rehabilitation setting after suffering a long-term knee injury which was poorly rehabbed and didn’t want others going through the pain and anger I did.”
Regan was part of the Plymouth Parkway reserves that won the league a few years ago and whilst at university, Regan took up a few different roles in his 2nd year placement as he explains: “I did a short-term placement with Ivybridge Town FC and then later went on to work in professional sport with placements at Plymouth Argyle FC and, more recently, Torquay United FC. Post-graduation, I continued work with Torquay United FC throughout pre-season administering baseline testing and expanding my knowledge of rehabilitation in professional sport.”
After a successful three years at Marjon, it seems a perfect fit for both Regan and Parkway to begin a working relationship as Regan adds: “I’ve known Lee distantly for a few years through coaching at grassroots football. I know Matt Cusack through similar routes, having studied one of my coaching qualifications with him a few years ago. I don’t know Matt Godfree personally but have heard great things of him; I look forward to working closely with Matt to offer an extra service to the players at Plymouth Parkway.
Regan adds: “I hope to stay at the club for as long as possible. I feel both my ambitions in football and sports therapy are matched by Lee and the club, which is always a necessity when joining a back-room staff. I want to help everyone involved in the club reach their goals and hopefully, the club to help me grow and progress in sports therapy.”
After being officially welcomed by the manager and handed a guided tour of the new look facilities on show at Bolitho Park, the physio cannot wait to get started: “The new facilities are honestly second to none. I’ve worked and visited various grounds at higher levels than Parkway’s and have not seen facilities like what we have. I cannot wait to get into the role and see the players grace the field in that first home game against Plymouth Argyle; with the added incentive of a sold-out crowd, finally!”
Regan also runs his own business and will be using Bolitho Park as his base over the course of the season as he looks to offer the best possible services to his clients. “I will be working from Bolitho Park as well with my own private business, RSM Sports Therapy. Here, my clientele varies from professional athletes, semi-professional football players, as well as the general population looking to lose some aches and pains. I work closely with professional boxing athletes, aiding their recovery and preparation for upcoming events.”
Regan will be offering injury assessments and rehabilitation, sports massages, and cupping therapy, to Electrotherapy and 1-1 coaching and performance sessions. It’s another important step for Plymouth Parkway to welcome Regan to Bolitho Park and another nod to helping Plymouth students after finishing university following on from the work Mike Parrish has been doing on the media side of the football club. It’s a hugely important part of Plymouth Parkway’s make up to give students a chance to showcase their skills and add to their portfolio.
We wish Regan all the best in his new role with the Yellows. Welcome to Parkway Regan
