Parkway Head To The Point
By Rob Kershaw
Following an excellent performance against Plymouth Argyle last weekend, Parkway will make the short trip across the Tamar to face off against Torpoint for their second pre-season game of 2022.
Goals from Billy Palfrey and Ben Seymour were cancelled out late on at Bolitho on Saturday as Argyle scrambled back to take a draw, but plenty of promise and optimism is to be taken from a respectable result against the League One side.
The opponents this time around have, like Parkway, just been promoted and are about to start the new season in a new environment, so Dean Cardew will be just as keen as Lee Hobbs to get as good an idea as he can of how the squad is looking going into the 2022/23 season.
Torpoint will be strutting their stuff in the Western League Premier Division this year after spending last term in the South West Peninsula League Premier Division East.
In perfect symmetry, our next opponents also came out on top in the league in 2021/22, so it was a good season for those of a yellow persuasion in Plymouth and the surrounding areas.
The Windmills won 17 of their 19 league games at the Mill last season, with Axminster managing a 4-4 draw in a dramatic encounter, before Okehampton took all three points in November.
Since then, they have taken victory in every home game they have played, so Parkway are venturing into some dangerous territory when they head west this weekend.
Parkway won 10 of their 19 on the road last term, losing six and drawing three – not a bad return considering some cold Tuesday night away trips were on the agenda.
The last fixture between the sides was a couple of years ago in pre-season at Bolitho, with Parkway coming out 3-2 winners.
All six of Parkway’s new arrivals over the summer made an appearance in some capacity last time out against Argyle, so there is plenty of momentum in everyone’s legs heading into the second game of pre-season.

The easiest way to get to the Mill involves heading down the B3396 to the ferry terminal in Devonport, before making your way across the river and into Torpoint.
The alternative is to head onto the A38 over the Tamar Bridge heading towards Saltash, before following the road to get around to the ground.
The ferry will add three minutes onto your journey, but it involves the shortest drive time, so if you can save on emissions by hopping onto the ferry, please do.
