Both sides forced an early corner apiece with on 4 minutes Ryan Gosney comfortably saving a speculative effort from distance by Oscar Halls.

Callum Rose then did well to block a powerful effort from Wayne Robinson before the visitors took the lead in the 6th minute.  A long diagonal ball from right to left by Owen Roundell-Prince found Jake Cope in acres of space and with Parkway unsuccessfully appealing for offside, the number 11 rifled a rasping first time angled volley from around 18 yard across Cory Harvey into the bottom right hand corner.

With Parkway looking to recover from the early setback they gradually regrouped and on 15 minutes an attack along the right saw a shot from Jack Crago blocked with Matt Wright doing well to control the loose ball in the 18 yard area with his shot going narrowly wide. On 18 minutes good link up play between Rio Garside and Wright saw a cross to the far post headed narrowly wide by Crago.

The visitors looking strong and well organised gradually began to control the game moving the ball sharply through midfield and looking dangerous on the counter along both flanks.

Parkway were being forced to defend for periods which they managed to do but were unable to build any attacking momentum with too many long balls into the channels being either overhit or misdirected. Toby Down picked up a yellow card on 23 minutes, a victim of the new directive to cut out time wasting it seemed.

Sholing continued to look the stronger outfit with Jake Adams and Roundell-Prince combining well along the right with a cross finding Dan Mason whose shot was deflected for a corner.

Sholing continued to press in their best spell of the game forcing another couple of corners which Parkway did well to defend but were unable to retain much quality possession in midfield which the visitors continued to dominate.

On 35 minutes the visitors Brad Targett saw yellow for seemingly delaying taking his own free kick presumably deemed as time wasting under the new directive. On 38 minutes another Sholing break along the right with Roundell-Prince prominent saw Down do well to block the cross at the expense of another corner which was cleared to safety. Sholing then almost doubled their lead on 42 minutes.

The powerful, strong running Robinson twisted and turned on the edge of the 18 yard area, beat two defenders and fired in a forceful shot which was superbly tipped over the bar by Harvey at full stretch. On 43 minutes Cope headed just over from another corner before a rare Parkway break saw Mikey Williams link with Garside whose shot was cleared.

Approaching the break Tom Purrington conceded possession in midfield and in attempting to recover the ball picked up a yellow card for a foul. In the 3 minutes of added time Mason headed into the side netting at the far post from another corner followed by the dangerous Robinson, who was a constant threat, breaking clear and shooting narrowly wide.

The early goal settled the visitors who generally controlled the game and created the better chances with Parkway having to defend for much of the half and despite working hard were unable to cause Sholing too many problems in the final third.

Down who had picked up an unnecessary first half yellow card was replaced at the break by Dylan Jones who lined up wide on the left in advanced role with Harrison King swapping from right back to the left and Lolot dropping slightly deeper on the right.

Parkway started the half with more intensity and on 50 minutes a long through ball saw Gosney race from his line and grab the ball just ahead of Jones who had made a strong run forward. Parkway continued on the offensive moving the ball well and keeping possession better however Sholing remained composed and solid in defence. However Parkway’s early pressure was rewarded when they equalised on the hour in a somewhat fortuitous manner.

Good link up play along the left between Williams and Jones saw a Williams shot blocked for a corner which Gosney under pressure was unable to gather cleanly. The attempted clearance was blocked by Halls with the ball ricocheting off the young defenders leg and looping into the net from around 8 yards. This seemed to unsettle Sholing and inspire Parkway who began to enjoy their best spell of the game as they increased the pressure. On 68 minutes Wright muscled a defender off the ball wide on the right with his angled drive hitting the side netting. Parkway continued to press with Jones looking dangerous along the left with his pace and trickery beginning to trouble the Sholing defence.

With the game opening up and both sides looking to win the game and not hang on to what they had, Halls headed just wide from a corner on 64 minutes with Sholing then breaking away and Rose doing well with a double block inside the 18 yard area. Parkway made their second change on 69 minutes with Alfie Moulden replacing Lolot who had made a quietly effective debut. With Sholing coming back into the game a superb save by Harvey from a close range drive from Adams denied the visitors a second goal with Rose and King combining to clear the danger.

Parkway responded with the hard working Wright creating space and crossing from the right to force a corner. With play now going from end to end, on 74 minutes the tricky Cope clipped the top of the bar with a cross cum shot from the left. As play intensified another Sholing player saw yellow for a strong challenge in midfield. Aaron Goulty then replaced King as Parkway looked to withstand the threat and on 81 minutes Crago raced clear only to be denied an effort on target after a good block by Roundell-Prince.

With the game delicately poised, Sholing forced another two corners with Parkway defending desperately at times to remain in the game and it was they who almost took the lead on 86 minutes. Crago’s dogged persistence won a corner on the right and it was he who headed dowwnards at the far post with ball bouncing up agonisingly over the bar.

Sholing finishing the stronger then took the lead in the third minute of stoppage time with Mason’s shot skidding off the bar with the ball being recycled wide on the left and crossed in where Targett rifled in a low drive from around 18 yards through a crowd of bodies, possibly getting a slight deflection, past the unsighted Harvey.

With little time remaining to get back on level terms Parkway conceded a third goal 3 minutes later after an error from Harvey saw his miskicked clearance attempt from outside the area fall to Adams who chipped home over the stranded keeper into the unguarded net to seal the victory their performance deserved.

Another disappointing defeat for Parkway who did well to recover from conceding an early goal to stay in the game in the first half but without threatening or creating many clear chances. A much better second half saw them draw level during their best spell of the game and although their effort and commitment cannot be faulted, the quality in key areas at key times was lacking.

On the balance of their overall play the well organised, albeit weakened, Sholing deserved the win with Parkway ultimately coming up short when it mattered in the final stages having defended manfully for so long and just unable to hold out for a point.

With key players missing due to injury and suspension the task doesn’t get any easier. On Saturday they embark on one of their longest away trips of the season to Chesham United who currently lie 9th having won both of their games scoring 4 and conceding 2 with their other being abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch at Hanwell when they were ahead .
