Parkway and its Supporters Club
As told by Stuart CadmoreMarch 2023
The supporters club was started in 2015 from an idea of Stuart Cadmore, football club founder. Stuart was leaving the ground one day when someone said to him, “When are we home again”. It was the word ‘we’ that caught his attention and he thought to himself that there is more to some of these spectators than just casually watching a local football match.
Some of the spectators he knew, he spoke to, plus officers of the club at that time. This was towards the end of the 2014/15 season and invited several spectators to a meeting at the ground, to discuss the forming of a supporters club and if indeed there was any support for the idea. Following a discussion, it was agreed to pursue the idea and the first official meeting took place in April of that year.
At that meeting it was agreed that Stuart would be the Secretary of the club and Brian Martin, who had been the Treasurer of the football club for several years would be the Treasurer. At that time no one came forward to be chairman. It took several months before the late John ‘Mack’ McCoy was appointed the first Chairman, with Gavin Lloyd taking over from Mack. It was also agreed that club colour scarves with the PPSC logo and ‘Founder Member’ on the scarf be purchased and sold. All were sold and the first picture under the goal posts took place, with the scarves. as can be seen in the picture above.
With the first season for the PPSC being 2015/16, they have now completed some seven seasons as a responsible body. There were gaps as two of the seasons were not completed due to the pandemic, which cut down the fund raising seriously. Never the less, the PPSC has raised in excess of £30,000 over that time. That money was invested in a variety of equipment and expenditure, ranging from employing security in the carpark, re damage to vehicles and funding a reservoir pitch watering system, plus many more projects.
Like all organisations, it has developed over the years and now operates a very successful merchandise sales branch, under the control of Tina Gilbert. With the present officers, Mike Norton Chairman, Rich Gilbert Secretary, Brian Martin Treasurer and Peter Hooper Vice Chairman and trustee/ cheque signatory and Dave Williams, who has taken match day raffle income to a new height.”
‘The supporters meet regularly at the club with officers of the Football Club. Information is given there, questions asked and ideas from the supporters discussed. Why not join the supporters club and help in the development of a professional non-league club, speak to a member of PPSC on match days for more information or find out more here. ‘
