The Match Preview | Parkway vs Frome Town

Parkway look ahead to Frome Town and the FA Cup

By Alex Haynes

FA Cup action returns to Bolitho once again this Saturday just two weeks after our first qualifying match. Parkway were 2-0 winners against Dorchester Town that day, and in round two of qualifying we take on Frome Town from the Southern League Division One South.

Captain Ryan Lane delivered a perfect freekick for Oscar Halls to head home to make it 1-0 versus The Magpies. After some great work from Callum Hall, Jack Crago capitalised on a mistake from a Dorchester defender to slot home and secure Parkway’s place in the next round. Frome Town recorded an emphatic 6-2 away win against Falmouth Town in the preliminary round, before beating Clevedon Town 3-1 to book their place in round two of qualifying.

In our title winning season in the 21/22 campaign in the Southern League Division One South, Frome pushed Parkway right up until the end. The Yellows finished just three points ahead of them, and the Robins were defeated in the playoff semi-finals. The teams played out a 2-2 draw at Bolitho that year, but Frome were victorious at Badgers Hill winning 1-0.

Parkway’s league form has been inconsistent so far, so a strong cup run could give the lads the lift they need. The league is always the priority, but taking this competition seriously will be beneficial for the club. The further we progress, the more chance we have of picking up invaluable experience against higher league opposition and achieving a financial boost.

Last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Hanwell aside, Parkway have been playing some good football and have greatly improved since the first four games. The squad will be hoping they can return to form in the FA Cup this Saturday and carry momentum back into the league next week.
